Army nurses served in the hospitals which were airlifted to chile to aid the victims of a severe earthquake and tidal waves. The two hospitals that participated in in relief operations during may and june were the 7th field with 30 nurses from Fort Belvoir, Virginia and the 15th field with 30 nurses from Fort Bragg North Carolina. -
Crash Of United Airlines
Army nurses participated in the relief operations from the crash of United Airlines Flight 759 that was near Denver Colorado. The hospital that was dispatched to the scene was the 249th.They provided impatient hospitalization. -

Army regulations granted the General Educational Development equal of two years at college level to army nurse corps officers who were graduates of a hospital school of nursing. -
Responsibility
the responsibility for army nurse recruitment programs were transferred from the office of surgeon general to the deputy chief of staff department of the army.
