Johann Pestalozzi established what is considered to the first school to teach preschool age children.

Nursery School

1854

The Nursery School for Children of Poor Women was opened in cooperation with Children's Hospital of New York City.

Kindergarten

1873

First public school kindergarten started in St. Louis.

Civil rights act

1964

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 made education available equally to all children in public schools. This allowed more children of many races, and from many income levels access to a better education

Head start

1965

Head Start was introduced. This program helps to educate young children who come from low-income families and provides them and their parents with assistance and education. This impacts education by allowing all young children the opportunity to get a good start in education no matter how much money a family has or where they come from.

Adopting computers

2003

According to the constructivist theory, the role of preschool teachers is critical in successfully adopting computers as they existed in 2003.

Military child

2005

Operation Military Child Care is started to support the child care needs of parents who are activated and deployed.

President Obama

2013

President Obama called on Congress to expand access to high-quality preschool to every child in America, called The Preschool for All initiative.
