Brown v. Board of Education was actually a set of cases from 5 different states
Case stayed in the supreme court for a year and a half -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
-the Montgomery Improvement Association appointed MLK to lead the boycott
-several thousand people took carpools, taxis, or walked instead of taking the bus -
Integration of Central High School
Little rock 9- First 9 black students to integrated into a white school
-Little Rock 9 students were not welcomed into their new school
-Students were escorted with troops to school -
First lunch counter sit-in
-on July 25, 1960 the first African American ate at the woolworth's lunch counter
-on May 10th Nashville became the first major city in the south to desegregate it's public facilities -
Freedom Rides
-in Aniston Alabama on May 14, a mob of whites attacked the riders and threw a fire bomb into one of the buses
-in 1962 the Interstate Commerce Commission stated clear rules that that the buses and bus terminals must be integrated -
Birmingham Campaign
-on may 3rd more than 1,000 African American children marched into the city center
-Dr. king spent time in jail for protesting -
March on Washington
-was first going to be held in 1941 because of the unfair treatment in the war industry
-over 250,000 marched on Washington -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
-banned discrimination because of race, sex, religion, or national origin
-Stalled under president Kennedy put was finally passed under president Johnson -
Voting Rights Act of 1965
-act outlawed literacy tests and other things that prevented blacks from voting
-from 1964 to 1968 African American voters in the south jumped from 1 million to 3.1 million -
Black Panther Party Founded
-founded in Oakland California
-called them selfs the the black panthers because like a panther they would not back away if attacked by a predator -
Watts Riot + Kerner Commission
-made in an effort to try to end riots
-found that most riots happened because of little events which triggered the riots -

-Gave African Americans a fair chance to get housing
