I was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. -
Kindergarten
I went to George Washington School for the first time. My language skills were concentrated in English. -
Elementary School
I studied at William Penn Elementary School from first grade to fifth grade, where all the subjects were taught in the English language. -
Move to Puerto Rico
My family moved to Aguada, Puerto Rico. I coursed the sixth grade level and by that time my ability to speak and understand Spanish was somewhat limited. -
Move back to Elizabeth New Jersey
I studied from seventh grade to eighth grade in Cleveland Middle School and my ninth grade at Jefferson. This year I graduated with honors. Again all the courses were in English. -
High School
I come back to Puerto Rico and I study from tenth to twelfth grade. All the courses were in Spanish except the English class. I had a little bit of trouble with Spanish at the beginning however, I graduated with high honors. -
College
I started college at the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez Campus. All the courses I took were mainly in English because it was my concentration. I took Conversational English courses, Teaching English Methodology, English Literature, Language and Phonics. -
Job and Career as an English Teacher
I began working as an English Teacher at Juan B. Soto School in Aguada, PR . I have taught from kindergarten to ninth grade. I have been teaching English for 22 years. Now I teach two bilingual groups, which are second and sixth grade. -
Master’s Degree
In 2003 I finished my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in English at the University of Phoenix. -
Bilingual Certification
I enrolled back in college to finish a Bilingual Certification at the University of Sagrado Corazon. The transitions and changes made from one place to the other and being exposed to both languages (English and Spanish) make me consider myself a fully or balanced bilingual.
