Enlightenment
Taking place in the late 1700s and early 1800s, the Enlightenment was a movement of certain individuals who strayed from the normal ideas of religion to answer questions. These individuals believed in looking for a more fair method to answers, utlizing logic and science in order to answer their quesitons. -
French Revolution
The French Revolution was a movement brought by the third estate of the Old Regime's system. A large bulk of these people protested against their unfair rights, and these small revolts quickly became a revolution for better rights among the French, which ultimately resulted in the death of their King and Queen, and the decalration of the rights of man. -
National Assembly
The National Assembly was a grouping of individuals of the Third Estate, who represented their estate in the Estates General. The Third Estates recieved limited and weak rights in the Estates General meetings. This grouping of people broke off from the Estates General, creating their own group in order to create better rights for themselves. -
Tennis Court Oath
When locked out of one of the meetings of the Estates General, the National Assembly were forced to hold their meeting inside of a Tennis Court. The members of the meeting were to pledge an oath to keep holding meetings against the King there. 576 of the 577 members of the Third Estate signed the Pledge. -
Haitian Revolution
Haiti had been plundered and controlled by European Countries by this time, and their revolution was fighting back against their superiors. Revolting at sugar plantations quickly turned to all out war among the island. At the head of the Revolution were rebellion leaders like L'Ouverture -
Reign of Terror
The Reign of Terror was a period of complete chaos and violence within France. This period occured directly after the French Revolution, when Robespierre had King Louis XVI and his Wife executed. The next year would be a string of executions of Upper Class individuals as the Third Estate fought for power. -
War of Knives
After defeating Foreign forces, the Haitians began taking sides in a war against one another for control of their newly freed country. One of these sides were lead by L'ouverture, and the other by Andre Rigaud. -
Industrial Revolution
Machines began to take over the age old system of creation by hand. Proving to be faster and more effective, many European countries underwent these revolutions to create goods faster and more effectively. This soon resulted in the heavy urbanization of once bare cities. -
Peninsular War
A war between the currently powerful France against Spain, Britain, and Portugal for control of the Iberian Peninsula in 1807. After much conflict, France was ultimately overpowered by its opponents. -
Congress of Vienna
A meeting held by several large countries in Europe, the Congress of Vienna was created to establish long-term peace within their continent. They achieved this by weakening France dramatically, which had been a significant threat at the time. -
Mughal Empire
The Mughal Empire was a large Empire that stretched over most, if not all, of the subcontinent of India. They were a vast Empire, unmatched, unrivaled and feared within India. -
Opium War
Britain and China went to war over Britian's illegal selling of the drug Opium into their country. The drug was killing massive amounts of China's population, and so they chose to challenge Britain. The war proved to be a mistake on China's part however, and Britain overpowered them on the seas. -
Treaty of Kanagawa
The treaty of Kanagawa was a treaty made my the US and Japanese. The US's superior navy gave them an easy access to several ports, which created trading between the two countries. The Japanese had been forced into the treaty, as the US had too powerful of a military for them to deny and risk conflict. -
Berlin Conference
After European countries overpowered Africa with weapons like the maxim gun and protection from Malaria with quinine, this Conference was held to decide which countries would get what parts of Africa. They divided the Continent up between them, but did not hold Africa present at the meeting. -
Boxer Rebellion
The Boxer Rebellion was a movement by Chinese who were against the Foreign influence in their land. They attempted to run out Britain's people, but were overpowered by the British, Chinese, and other European Countries.
