The 3/5ths Compromise
During the Philadelphia Convention of 1787 when delagates from all around the United States were deciding what to add to the new constitution and their home of freedom, the Northern states thought that it was unfair for the south to have more representatives in the House of Representatives due to their higher slave population. This resulted in the 3/5ths compromise. -
The Nullification Crisis
In response to the federal tariffs of 1828 and 1832, South Carolina passes its Nullification Ordinance, stating that it viewed the tariffs as unconstitutional, and therefore was nulled from the borders of South Carolina.
