Middle Ages: Timeline Creation

  • 1374 BCE

    The Plague

    The Plague
    A plague swept across Europe killing half of the population. The plague was caused by rodants, 1 in 7 infected end up dead.
    This is important because during this time period, a fuedal system was in place. So, when all of the serfs were dropping dead on the street, it caused a glitch in the system.
  • 1215 BCE

    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    The king of England during this time was John of England. He signed the Magna Carta which is a document that offered the people rights and freedoms. The Magna Carta also proclaimed that the King was not above the law and had to follow them just like everyone else.
    This is important because during this era this was a big deals. Kings weren't usually willing to give up power and peasants were usually treated unfairly. So when some just actions were put into place it was something to recognize.
  • 1096 BCE

    The First Crusade

    The First Crusade
    Crusades were battles between the Holy Roman Empire and the Muslims over the Holy Land. Crusaders believed that participating in crusades pardoned them from their sins and guarnteed them a spot in heavn.
    This is important because these battles were so serious that the went on for about 200 years. Religion has always been important during this time period.
  • 1066 BCE

    The Forever Change

    The Forever Change
    William of Normandy takes over England saying that he is the rightful king after the victory of the Battle of Hastings.
    This is important because great changes were made, and the spoken language of the court became French and gradually began to blend wit the Anglo-Saxon tongue.
  • 800 BCE

    The new Holy Roman Emperor

    The new Holy Roman Emperor
    Charlemagne was crowned the Holy Roman Empire while he was also the king of Franks. This gave him much power. He went on to unite Europe.
    This is important because the unison of Europe was a huge deal, along with the power the Charlemagne had.
  • 476 BCE

    The Fall of the Roman Empire

    The Fall of the Roman Empire
    A Germanic barbarian, Odoacer, took control of Rome and became king of Italy & Forced the emporer of Rome to give up his crown. This marked the fall of the Roman Empire.
    This is important because this is when the middle ages started to come to light.
