  • Edward Jenner

  • Louis Pasteur

    Discovered alcohol production from grape juice was due to yeast and coined the term fermentation.
  • Joseph Lister

    Joseph Lister
    He was the first person to isolate bacteria in pure culture using liquid culture. He also developed a system of antiseptic surgery.

    Used attenuated cultures as vaccines from immunizing and protecting individuals against diseases. He developed vaccines for anthrax and rabies.

    Was the founder of modern Bacteriology, developing a method to isolate the microorganisms in a pure culture from diseased tissue. He also perfected the techniques of identification of isolated bacteria.

    His research was based largely on soil microorganisms and discovered streptomycin and other antibiotics used today.
