Metal Gear is an overhead military action-adventure video game originally released in 1987 by Konami for the MSX2 computer standard in Japan and parts of Europe. Considered to be the progenitor of the stealth game genre, it was also the first video game designed by Hideo Kojima. The game revolves around a special forces operative codenamed Solid Snake who goes into a solo infiltration mission into the fortified state of Outer Heaven to destroy Metal Gear, a bipedal walking tank. -

Metal Gear 2 is an overhead stealth action game that was originally released by Konami in 1990 for the MSX2 computer standard exclusively in Japan. Solid Snake must infiltrate Zanzibar Land, a heavily defended territory located in Central Asia, to rescue a kidnapped scientist and destroy the revised Metal Gear D. The game significantly evolved the stealth-based game system of its predecessor "in almost every way," introduced a complex storyline dealing with themes such as the nature of warfare. -
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid is the third MG game in the series. The game featured cinematic cutscenes rendered using the in-game engine and graphics, as well as voice acting in numerous codec sequences. Metal Gear Solid follows Solid Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from FOXHOUND, a renegade special forces unit. -
Metal Gear Solid 2
MGS2 is the fourth Metal Gear game produced and directed by Kojima and the direct sequel to Metal Gear Solid. The story revolves around the "Big Shell", a massive offshore clean-up facility that has been seized by a group of terrorists that call themselves "Sons of Liberty". They demand a massive ransom in exchange for the life of the President of the United States, and threaten to destroy the facility and create a cataclysmic environmental disaster if their demands are not met. -
Metal Gear Solid 3
Metal Gear Solid 3 serves as a prequel to the entire Metal Gear series. Set in the Cold War-era Soviet Union, the story centers on FOX operative Naked Snake as he attempts to rescue a weapons designer and sabotage an experimental superweapon. The environment plays a huge part in this game. Snake blends into it with different camo effects. Also animals are animated to create a sense of reality. -
Metal Gear Solid 4
Metal Gear Solid 4 was directed by Hideo Kojima and made its worldwide release on June 12, 2008, ten years after the release of Metal Gear Solid and twenty years after the North American release of Metal Gear. In MGS4, players assume the role of Old Snake, utilizing stealth, CQC, and traditional combat techniques. Motion capture is used to give the characters a hightened sense of reality.
