Melakans saw many boats coming towards their city. Cheng Ho had things to give to Paramesvara to help build his kingdom and protect it. He was greedy and wanted to have be safe when he travels, so he can trade more and build China's economy. -

Melaka lost their protection from China. They were vulnerable to wars; the chances of attack on Melaka increased. -

Portuguese in Melaka
They wanted to take over the Spice Trade, because in Europe there was no spices and they had many in Asia. Melaka was a city that was along the spice route. It was easier to arrive when China was no longer there. They came in the Flor de Mer. They brought Catholicism to Melaka and they wanted to get rid of the Muslim faith. They built the Al Famosa to keep them protected. They tried to control the spice trade. -

They were very violent, as they were enemies of the Portuguese. They were jealous because they were controling the spice trade. They needed the help of the Kingdom of JohorBaru to defeat the Portuguese. Once in control, they dictated who could trade, what people could grow, etc. They treated the local people like slaves. They rebuilt the fort. They main trade stayed in the VOC headquarters in Jakarta, which made Melaka less important. -
