    4 year old Bella found herself being very unsure on which toys to choose to play with because her parents would always choose for her and would sometimes punish her if she chose one herself. Erikson's second stage, Autonomy vs shame and doubt, states that children are able to obtain a sense of self by being able to make some of their own decisions, but become doubtful or shameful if they are restrained from doing so.

    86 year old John was in the hospital with stage 4 lung cancer, evaluating events in his life and couldn't help but think that his life would have been so much happier if he didn't let the love of his life marry someone else. Ego Integrity vs despair is Erikson's eighth stage is a stage when someone looks back on their life and either accepts it or regrets it, filling them with despair.

    Alex, a one month old infant, was always being held and cared for by his mother and therefore trusted many other people to hold and take care of him. In Erikson's first stage, trust versus mistrust, an infant gains trust in the social world by establishing an attachment with their primary caregiver. Without a stable attachment, an infant will have a difficult time trusting others along with their primary caregiver.

    Jenna accepted her boyfriend's proposal to marry after they had dated each other for 2 years. Erikson's sixth stage, Intimacy vs Isolation, states that young adults struggle with risking their identity that is newly formed to be apart of an intimate relationship, while others who can't risk becoming vulnerable end up isolating themselves.
