    Reconquista

    The Recnquista I the name given to a long series of wars and battles between the Christian Kingdom an the Muslim Moors for control of the Iberian Peninsula. It lasted for a good portion of the Middle Ages from 718 to 1492. The Reconquista began in 718 when King Pelayo of the Visigoths defeated the Muslim army in Alcama at the Battle of Covadonga.

    King Edward of England (called ''The Confessor'' because of his construction of Westminster Abbey) died on January 5, 1066, after a reign of 23 year. Leaving no heirs, Edward passing ignited a three way rivalry for the crown that culminated in the Battle of Hastings and the destruction of the Anglo Saxon rule of England.

    King Harold 2 of England is defeated by the Normand force of William Conqueror at the Battle of Hastngs, fought on Senlac Hill, seven miles from Hastings, England. At the end of the bloody, all day battle, Harold was killed shot in the eye with an arrow, according to legend and his forces were destroyed. He was the last Anglo Saxon king of England.

    The Black Death arrived in Europe by sea in October 1347 when 12 Genoese trading ship docked at the Sicilian port of Messina after a long journey through the Black Sea. People gathered on the docks to greet the ship were met with a horrifying surprise. They were overcome with fever unable to keep food down and delirious from pain.
