According to PC's website: "The Women's Athletic Association organized at PJC sponsored a variety of sports in which girls could participate, including the first women's football team of its kind. The team was described in a local newspaper - 'Beauty romped around the Phoenix Union High School stadium gridiron last night in gridiron suits, passed, tossed, kicked and fought over a little football.'" -

PC student Jacque Mercer is named Miss America. -
Segregation
Phoenix College was one of the few schools to never be segregated. In 1951 Eldridge Gonaway, and African American, was elected Student Body President. -
