Lexington and Concord- REAL EVENT
Battles of Lexington and Concord begins Revolutionary War, Sam Meeker witnesses the events of the battle and is influenced by his friends to join the army. -
Beginning of the Book
The Meeker family is a pretty normal family who owns a popular tavern in Redding, Connecticut. Sam Meeker after witnessing the Battles of Lexington and Concord and making a pact with his friends, decides to join the army. -
Sam's Argument
Sam leaves the house after having a huge argument with his dad and takes the family gun with him, leaving the family to fend for only themselves unarmed. -
Sam's first Return
Sam returns to Redding, but isn't supposed to be there. After a group of continental soldiers comes in and questions father, Tim finds Sam and takes his gun to fight off the soldiers. He is stopped by Sam and the two have a falling out. -
Mr. Heron, the shady Troll
A shady and mysterious man, Mr. Heron, introduces himself. Tim is asked by him to deliver a letter despite the fact that Tim's father doesn't want him to. It is unclear whether Mr. Heron is a Tory or not. -
Delivering Cattle
Tim goes with his dad to deliver cattle to a place called Verplacks Point. They are confronted by cowboys from the continental army who at first let them go but later on Tim's way home come back to capture father. Tim kept going and decided that there are pros and cons to both sides of the war. -
Getting more difficult
Life is etting very difficult for the two remaining Meekers. Prices of goods and supplies are rising, and many people only pay with conscript notes, which are worthless if the continental army doesn't win the Revolutionary War. They have to work very hard, and even have to work on Sunday which is considered a sin. -
British Invasion- REAL EVENT
The British Army invades Redding and captures several patriots. They murder several patriots, including an African American slave named Ted. Tim witnessed Ted's death, which was by decapitation and became terrified. -
American invasion- REAL EVENT
Later that day, the Continental Army also comes after the British have left. They set up camp while Benedict Arnold and some of his men discuss battle plans in the tavern. -
Locating Sam
Tim goes to find Sam at the encampment. Sam comes to the tavern and says he's going to reinlist with his friends. His mother is disgusted and Tim realizes he is merely reinlisting for the thrill of fighting. -
Getting Framed
The remaining Meekers discover that father passed on, but for some reason on a British ship. After dark, Sam thinks he hears a cattle burglar and goes to investigate, but gets beat up and framed by the real cattle theives. -
Execution
On the day Sam was framed, he told Tim to find his general so he could explain, but Sam's general revealed the person controlling the execution was General Putnam. Tim tried to convince General Putnam of Sam's innocence, but Putnam would not listen since Sam wasn't where he was supposed to be. Sam was executed on that day. -
Epilogue
On the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the USA, Tim Meeker is living a very successful life. He and his mother moved away from Redding, and Tim built a bank and another tavern, becoming very wealthy. Tim wrote down the events to commemorate his Brother, Sam, who is quite dead sir.
