Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" Speech

  • Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA)

    Martin Luther King was elected to lead the (MIA) after a discussion in his church regarding how to act following Rosa Parks' bus event. King announced amongst the group at 26 years old that "he is not a coward" and that they should continue the bus boycotting.
  • Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC)

    This regional organization was founded by Martin Luther King to help conduct civil rights protests in the South. Dr. King utilized the SCLC to coordinate activities that included the aid of black churches.
  • Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC)

    The SNCC was founded by Ella Baker, Diane Nash, and Julian Bond in 1960. AMrtin Luther King Jr. was a field secretary for this organization and was involved in protest during the civil rights movement.
  • Congress of Racial Equality (CORE)

    Martin Luther King Jr. worked with CORE from the late 1950s- mid-1960s. And coordinated with the organization in depth to support black people during the 1960 sit-in movement.
  • NAtion Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)

    The NAACP was one of the main leaders in initiating the march on Washington,w here Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I Have a Dream" speech.
