    Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. His parents were Martin Luther King, Sr. and Alberta Williams King. Martin, Jr., was a middle child, between an older sister, Willie Christine King, and a younger brother, Alfred Daniel Williams King.

    King attended Booker T. Washington High School.During high school he skipped both the ninth and the twelfth grade and entered Morehouse College at age fifteen without formally graduating from high school. After graduating from Morehouse College King, enrolled in Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania, from which he graduated with a bachelor degree in 1951.

    In 1954, Martin Luther King became pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. His time as pastor was from 1st September 1954 to November 1959. This was not his first time leading a church, as he was the co-pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta whilst his dad was the pastor.

    On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat. King ( who was inspired by Gandhi) used a peaceful protest to try to win the law back of sitting wherever they want on the buses. King and many other blacks refused to sit on the buses ntil the bus companies allowed the blacks to sit wherever they wanted to.
  • "I Have a Dream" Speech

    "I Have a Dream" Speech
    On August 28th 1963, King delivered a 17-minute speech, later known as "I Have a Dream". It is said that the audience who stayed tune to the speech was over a quarter million and was a mix of whites and blacks. In the speech King taked about an end to racial segregation in public schools, meaningful civil rights legislation, including a law prohibiting racial discrimination in employment etc. This speech is now know as one of the most famous speeches in history.
  • Nobel Peace Prize

    On October 14, 1964, King became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.It was awarded to him for leading non-violent resistance to racial prejudice in the U.S. This was not King's only reward as he has earnt many other rewards from different organizations and colleges.
  • Assassination

    Assassination
    On the evening of April 4, 1968 King was assassinated. He standing on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was to lead a protest march in sympathy with striking garbage workers of that city. King died when he was 39 but had fulfilled his aim of stopping segregation.
