Mars Rover Timeline

  • Mariner 4

    Mariner 4
    Mariner 4 Equipment details:
    - Cosmic ray telescope and a TV camera. Purpose and Significance:
The purpose of the Mariner 4 was to get photographs of what Mars looks like so they could plan where they could land other space crafts. This was also a very big mission since it was the first-ever mission to Mars. Geological Evidence:
It collected close up images of Mars.
  • Viking 1&2

    Viking 1&2
    Viking 1&2 Equipment details,
It had a Radioisotope and a thermoelectric which would help get its mission done. Purpose and significance of this mission:
The rovers purpose of going was to investigate Mars's soil
and the significance of this was that this could really help to see if the human race could plant crops/food in the soil of Mars. Geological evidence:
The geological evidence that Viking 1&2 found was
    Microorganisms in Mars soil.
  • Mars Climate Orbiter

    Mars Climate Orbiter
    Mars Climate Orbiter Equipment Details:
Robotic space probe which will help the Mars climate orbiter find the climate on Mars. Purpose and significance:
The purpose of this mission was to find out the climate on Mars and the significance of this moment was because humans need a specific temperature so if we could find the temperature we could prepare for that weather when and if humans go on Mars. Geological Evidence:
It found that the lowest Temperature of -84 degrees celsius.
  • Mars odyssey

    Mars odyssey
    Mars Odyssey Equipment Details:
It had a Gamma-ray semester. Purpose and Significance of the mission:
The purpose of this mission was to find out what the Mars environment was like.
This was a significant mission because if we went to Mars we would need to know what to bring to make mars sustainable for the human race. Geological Evidence,
It found Patches of widespread deposits of underground water ice
    which means water is there.
  • Phoenix Scout

    Phoenix Scout
    Phoenix Scout Equipment Details:
It has a VLP-16 which help the Phoenix Scout find what it is looking for. Purpose and Significance of the mission:
The purpose was to study the history of water on Mars and to discover martian arctic ice-rich soil.
This is significant because this is important to see if water was on Mars. Geological Evidence:
It also found white spread just like the Mars Odyssey.
  • Curiosity

    Curiosity
    Curiosity Equipment Details:
    - Cameras, Mastcam Purpose and Significance of mission:
The purpose was to see if Mars is a sustainable place for the human race. It was significant because this mission played a significant role in determining whether Mars would be an appropriate environment for humans. Geological Evidence:
It found Boron wind which scientists say is essential for living on a planet.
  • Maven

    Maven
    Maven Equipment Details:
Supra thermal and thermal ion composition. Purpose and Significance of the mission:
The purpose of this Mission was to study Mars’s atmosphere. Geological Evidence:
Maven sighting spring meant there had been water on Mars.
  • Exomars

    Exomars
    Exomars Equipment Details:
    - Subsurface Purpose and Significance of mission:
To search for signs of past life on Mars. Geological Evidence:
Exomars have not found anything yet since it was set off not so long ago, but it will continue to look for signs of past life on Mars.
