    Marie Antoinette was born in Vienna, Austria on Novmeber 2, 1755. The last queen of France was born Maria Antonia Josepha Joanna. She was the 15th child of Maria Theresa, empress of Austria, and Holy Roman Emperor Francis I out of 16 (Farmer 127).

    When the Seven Years' War began France and Austria were allies for the first time. The alliance between France and Austria would remain only if they had something to bring the two country together. Both the people of France and Austria arranged that France's Louis XV's grandson would marry Marie Antoinettte. This marriage would strengthen the alliance of the two countries (Plain 1).

    In 1765 the Stamp Act was the first internal tax levied directly on American colonists by the British Parliament. The act imposed a tax on all paper documents in the colonies. The British were doing this because they were in debt from the Seven Years' War. The British looked to the American colonies for money. The American colonists believed that the act was unconstitutional and began to make violence to intimidate the stamp collectors. Parliament finally repealed the act in 1766 (Stamp Act).

On this day in April 1770 Maria Theresa, Marie's mother sent 14 year old Marie Antoinette to France to marry someone she had never met before (Coffman 117).

    On May 16th 1770 Marie Antoinette and Louis- Auguste were married. Marie was 14 years old and Louis was 15 years old when they married. On their wedding day Marie was escorted by 57 carriages, 117 footmen, and 376 horses. After their wedding Marie did not adjust well and was very homesick.     1st naval attack of Revolution War in Providence, Rhode Island
    June 9th 1772 was the 1st naval attack of the Revolution War in Providence, Rhode Island. This was called The Gaspee Affair. On June 9th, a local vessel from Newport was on it's way to Providence when its captain baited the HMS Gaspee and led Duddingtion into shallow waters near Warwick. The Gaspee was stranded at a place that is now known as Gaspee point. This news quickly spread to Providence and a party planned to attack the ship. The next evening the party of 55 attacked (The Gaspee Affair).

    King Louis XV dies of smallpox on May 10th 1774 at the age of 64. He died in the bedchamber of his inner apartment after a 59- year old reign. The sickness came on when on April 26th he set out for the Petit Trianon with a few friends, and the next morning he woke up not feeling well. He felt sick and had a headache. He went on with life though until 2 days later when his chief doctor order his transfer to Versailles. Louis was diagnosed with smallpox on April 29th and died on May 10(Louis XV).

    June 11th 1775 Louis- Auguste was offically crowned King Louis XVI after Louis XV died on May 10th, 1774. On June 11th Louis Auguste was crown king Louis XVI of France and Marie Antoinette was named Queen of France and Navarre at the cathedral of Reims. Marie Antoinette had many hardships in her time of rule and was criticized by many people in France ( Bastille- Day).

    Maire Antoinette gave birth to her first child on December 19th 1778. Before then Joseph II was sent to France to act as a marriage counselor. Marie's older brother's counsels apparently worked.     The Treaty of Paris was an agreement signed at Jassy in Moldavia at the end of the Russo- Turkish War that was from 1787 to 1792. This treaty confirmed Russian dominance in the Black Sea. This treaty advanced the Russian frontier to the Dniester River, which included the fortress of Ochakov and restored Bessarabia, Moldavia, and Walachia to the Ottomans (Treaty of Jassy 1792).

    One day after being found guilty of a plan with foreign powers and sentenced to death by the French National Convection, King Louis XVI was executed by guillotine in the Place de la Revolution in Paris on January 21st, 1793. From the beginning of Louis's rule he had many hardships due to severe financial problems that he inherited from his grandfather. Eventually violence erupted and in August of 1792 the royal couple was arrested. In January, Louis was condemned to death (Louis XVI executed).

    French Revolution "Reign of Terror" begins
    The Reign of Terror started on September 5th, 1793 and ended on July 28th, 1794 . This was a time of violence that occured after the beginning of the French Revolution. This event was brought on by the conflict between the Girondins and The Mountain. Many people were arrested and executed without trial if they were accused of not wanting revolution, about 40,000 people died in the 15 month period. Marie Antoinette was executed by a Guillotine (The Reign of Terror).

    Marie Antoinette was executed 9 months after the execution of her husband. After Marie and Louis attempted to escape to Austria in 1791, they were captured by revolutionary forces and brought back to Paris. In 1792, the French monarchy was abolished, and Marie and her husband were condemned for treason (Marie-Antoinette is Beheaded).
