Mao Zedong was born in Shaoshan in Xiangtan county, Hunan province, in southern China. His parents were Mao Yichang and Wen Qimei. Mao's family were peasant farmers. -

church and state seperate in France
In 1904 France decided to seperate church and state, meaning the church no longer had any influence over matters of the state. This is important because religion was al arge part of france during the time period and they limited the power it had in government. -
E.W. Korngold's " the snowman"
In 1908 an eleven year old wrote a ballet entitled " The Snowman". The ballet was widely adored at the Vienna Court Opera in 1910. E.W. Korngold went on to write many more pieces and remained a composer until his death. -

Mao worked on his family farm as a kid but also went to school. He graduated in colledge in 1918 and hadhelped found a group a reformers while there, The group was called " The New People's Study Society". Most memebers later became communists like Mao. -

Many communists were working in the government while it was under the rule of Sun Yat-sen. However after Sun's death in 1925 Chiang Kai-shek took over. The cascade tunnel is longest railroad in America. The project was abandoned in the ealry 1900s however it was officially opened again in 1929. This railroad marks an important part of the growth of America. -
Long march begins
The long march was the journey fromthe current communist base in mountains and marched roughly 6,000 through China. More than 100,000 people started the march but only 20,000 survived. -
Chiang and communist alliance
Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai-Sek formed a temporary alliance in 1936 to fight off an invader. Kai-sek promised to call off his anti-communism campaign if they helped fight with them. The truce was ended soon after when the communists took over. -
Anne Frank goes into hiding
Anne Frank the famous Jewish girl who's diaries about her time in Germany were published, went into hiding in1942. Her journals provided a first hand account of the horrors of the holocaust. Anne hid in a secret annex for years until her family was caught. -
Peoples rebublic of China formed
Mao Zedong declared the People's Republic of China in 1949. It was a communist government which he was total dictator of. This form of government is still used today and Mao's republic is still standing. Mao ruled for around 27 years. -

The Korean war was fought between North and South Korea. This war was imprtant because China backed North Korea while the United Nations supported South Korea, creating high tension. The war lasted four years and resulted in a divided nation. -
The Hundred Flowers Campaign
This was a movement created by Mao to encourage his people to speak freely and critize the government if they wanted. It gained popularity in 1957 and people actually began sharing their issues about communism. Shortly after Mao decided the critizism had gone too far and anyone considered too harsh of a critic against his government was sent to labor camps. -
Cultural revolution
This was another movement of Mao's in which he attemped to ensure that the culture of China was reforming as radically as the government had. Mao sought to ensure the new ideas didnt fade like most cultural revolutions do, so he spread around books with his teachings. During this period Mao was worshipped like a god in China. -
China joins the United Nations
China had been attempted to join the United Nations, however the United States had always blocked every effort. However China was finally admitted in 1971 and president Nixon visited in 1972. -
Mao Zedong dies
Mao Zedong died in semptember of 1976. The rule of Chine was passed down to Hua Guofeng until Deng Xiaoping rose to power in 1981. Mao Zedong was buried in the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong, Beijing, China.
