Jun 24, 1948 Converts to the Nation of Islam in prison. Jun 24, 1953 Changes name from Malcolm Little to Malcolm X and becomes Assistant Minister of Nation of Islam's Detroit Temple. Jun 24, 1954 Promoted to Minister of Nation of Islam's New York Temple. Jun 24, 1958 Marries Betty X in Michigan. Jun 24, 1959 Travels to Middle East and Africa Dec 24, 1963 Nation of Islam tells Malcolm X to be silent, because of remarks involving President Kennedy’s assassination. Mar 24, 1964 Malcolm leaves the Nation of Islam and starts his own organization called the Muslim Mosque, Inc. Apr 24, 1964 Travels to Middle East and Africa again. May 24, 1964 Starts the Organization of Afro-American Unity. Feb 14, 1965 Malcolm's home was bombed. Feb 21, 1965 Malcolm X was assassinated when speaking at the Audubon Ballroom in New York.
