Red clay and water was used for lips and cheeks. Sometimes to create this staining effect they squeezed out purple-red colour from iodine and bromine. This combination of ingredients would lead to serious diseases and came to be known as “the kiss of death”. They would also use fish scales to give their lipstick shimmer. -

Kohl was being used for darkening eyelashes and eyelids. Then made from charcoal or soot, honey ,water and strangely enough, from crocodile stool. They used it to darken eyes, eyelashes, and eyebrows, protect their eyes from harmful dust and microorganisms that were blown by the wind. This substance was a part of their religion, most often it represented preservation of wearer soul against harmful evil spirits. -
