1918 World Series, Boston Vs. Chicago
At the bottom of the 7th Inning, Babe Ruth was about to make his first pitch of the inning when he was interupted by The Wrigly Field Band. They began playing The Star Spangled Banner. Everyone in the stands stood with their hats over their hearts.
The impact this had on baseball and the World Series is now we have the 7th Inning stretch at baseball games and it is a tradition to play The Star Spangled Banner. In 1951, Congress confirmed that the song would be a sports tradition. -
1919 World Series, Reds Vs. White Sox
In the 1919 World Series , the Cincinati Reds beat the heavily favored Chicago White Sox. This was eventually known as the "Black Sox Scandal" becasue Chicago players took payoffs to lose. That same year the Commisioner of Baseball helped protect the "best intrest" of the game.

Prior to 1969, The National and American leagues crowned champions depending on the win-lose ratio at the end of the regular season, making them the penant winner. In 1969, they created structured playoff series. The NL and AL were reorganized into 2 divisions. The 2 division winners would play 5 games to determine who gets to go to the World Series.

World Series Game Begin at Night
Night games began in 1955, but only World Series games were played in the daytime up until 1971. The first World Series Night game was at Three River Stadium.
By schedualing more and more games at night, there would be a bigger audiance to watch the games since, prime time tv is mainly at night. Since marketing is all about focusing on the people by moving it to night it allows for more viewers. -
Designated Hitter Comes to The World Series
In 1973, The American League adopted the desginated hitter role to place a batter in for the usual weak pitcher. In 1976, this rule came to the World Series . Also in 1986 the DH role was given to parks. So if the wolrd series was being played at a National league park, there would be no DH but at a American League Park there would be a DH allowed.
This impacted the homefield advantage that teams would get and also make for a stronger team since the pitcher is usually weak at hitting. -
MLB World Series Goes Outside the United States
World Series games were mostly in the U.S. In 1992, The Toronto Blue Jays beat The Atlanta Braves in 6 games.
By expanding the World Series to outside the United States, we can bring more competition to U.S. teams and can give for more competition. In marketing its about marketing and keeping steady relationships. Therefore bringing a foregin team into the picture can encourage other teams to join as well. -
League Division Series
In 1994, the League Division series was restructured into 3 divisions. The 3 division winners and wild card teams would advance to the playoff rounds which were, The National League Division Series, and The American League Division Champions. The team with the best record would be matched with the wild card team
By restructuring the teams into 3 divisions this gives all the teams in each division a better chance of getting to the post season. -
All-Star Game Determines Home Field Advantage
Prior to the 2003 season, home field advantage altered every year for the World Series. After the 2002 All-Star game ended in a tie, MLB awraded home field advantage to the All-Star game winner. This was originally going to be just a test to see how it worked out but worked so well MLB decided to extend the rule indefinatly.
Now that home field advantage is critical in a World Series game, the All-Star game is more critical and can actually play a big role in who gets the home field advantage.
