The industrial revolution didn't just happen overnight it was a long process that took about a century. During this period; there was a major population growth the population of major countries increased by 50 to 100%, there was a decline in epidemics, There was a rise in the commercialization, domestic manufacturing skyrocket. Many powered-driven machines where invented which lead to air pollution. Coal burning brought water and air pollution which had a huge effect on the environment. -
The Passenger Pigeon Becomes extinct
Once there were billions of passenger pigeons out there but by early 1900s they were almost all gone. The passenger pigeon extinction was the first at the hands of man. This extinction brought a lot of concern and awareness towards other animals in danger of extinction. -
Minamata Bay Disaster
The Minamata Bay Disaster is the worst mercury poisoning disaster that has ever happened. Many people started getting sick and eventually dying in Minamata and surrounding towns were the bay was doctors didn't know what was happening until they found it was mercury poisoning. Mercury waste was dumped into the bay by a huge chemical plant this contaminate the fish and people ate them hence getting mercury poisoning. This affected people and wildlife. -
C.I.T.E.S. Formed by IUCN
C.I.T.E.S. (The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) was created by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) to prevent the trade of endangered species. By doing this the governments can fight to preserve the flora and fauna and prevent the extinction of more species. -
Nairobi Earth Summit
During this Summit, the nations talked about how the action plan they had implemented in Stockholm wasn't falling through. So they did a bid to implement this action plans. -
Bhopal Disaster
Is the worlds worst industrial disaster. It happened in the Union Carbide India Limited pesticide plant on the night od December second. There where an estimated 15,000 fatalities. By seven in the morning, the death total was already in 2,259. This not only caused human death but also animals and huge contamination to the environment. -
Chernobyl Disaster
Is the worst nuclear disaster in the history of nuclear power. A chain reaction caused several explosions which led to the lid of the reactor blowing off releasing massive amounts of radioactive material into the atmosphere. This not only affected the surrounding towns but you could say the whole world giving that the radioactive material was carried with the wind. -
