Virginia Code
A new law was passed in Virginia that created a new situation for imported indentured servants from Africa. It stated that all servants that were imported who were not Christian were to be slaves. This stopped any hope for freedom from any imported African due to the fact that many of them either had never heard of Christianity or because it was widely hated in their culture. This code would also serve as a model for other states looking to turn their servants to slaves. -
Spanish Florida Promises Freedom for Slaves
In an attempt to expand their Catholic religion and increase the size of their colony, Spanish Florida opened its boarders to fugitive slaves. If the slaves were willing to convert to Catholicism they would be granted their freedom and land that they could live on. One of the most famous runaway slaves was a 20-year-old slave that had his name changed to Francisco Menendez. He founded Fort Mose were eventually 67 fellow runaway slaves would find their new lives. -
Stono Rebellion
The Stono Rebellion was a rebellion that shocked South Carolina citizens and ended in the death of 60 people. The rebellion was led by the Angolan slave Jemmy. He and his 20 slave rebels marched to a munitions bank on the Stono River and stole arms declaring their liberty. The slaves were captured and then the remaining slaves were sold back into slavery in the West Indies This shocked the American colonies and showed them that slaves were intelligent enough to form an effective rebellion. -

Seven Years War
The Seven Years War was known to Americans as the "French and Indian War," but to Britain, it was a global war that was extremely costly. The French and Indian War was not initially looking good for the English colonies. The war started off with the surrender of George Washington, Edward Braddock, and Governor William Shirley. It was followed by British victory on most fronts and later the Treaty of Paris in 1763 which ended the war and shaped the colony lines in favor of British colonies. -
Treaty of Paris 1763
This treaty was signed in Paris and was one of two treaties that resulted in the end of the Seven Years War. It split the land of North America up and gave it to the differing nations' colonies, however, it was largely in favor of the British colonies. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was the first act that was levied on the American Colonists by the British Parlament. This act declared that all paper goods must have a stamp on them showing that a tax had been paid for it. The reason for this act was because of the massive debt that Britain took on after the 7 years war. Colonists were furious that they had to pay for a war that they fought in and for not having proper representation amongst the parliament members when voting for the law. -

Anthony Benezet formed the Pennsylvania Abolition Society in order to popularize the unpopular idea that slavery was against God and his plan. -

American Revolution
The American Revolution was an intense period of time where Great Britain fought against forces from France, Spain, the Netherlands, and her American colonies on the American front. The war was caused by colonist uprising in Lexington and Concord due to the lack of representation amongst the British government and the lack of control over themselves. The war ended with the Treaty of Paris of 1783 giving America her independence. -
Declaration of Independence is Created
The Declaration of Independence was a document forged by the Founding Fathers that severed the 13 colonies' political connection with Great Britain. It served as a way to declare the colonies an independent country able to make a treaty with the French. -
Batlle of York Town
The Battle of Yorktown was the major defeat that the colonies had been looking for. The French Blockade trapped the British troops in Yorktown and stopped any supplies from reaching them. Concurrently, the revolutionary forces marched in on land trapping the British forces and forcing General Cornwallis to surrender. This was the finishing blow to the British that helped to end the American Revolution. -
Treaty of Paris 1783
The second treaty signed in Paris by the British and French governments was to end the American Revolution. This document served as the official statement that the United States of American was officially recognized by Great Britain as being independent and its own country.
