    Opening of the Burr-House and Craft Gallery
    The Burr-house Craft Gallery and Tearoom opened in 1819. This was a milestone Richmond Hill because it became known for the arts and encouraged youths to learn about arts and enjoy it. This Burr-House Craft Gallery offers one of a kind items, hand made crafts by local artisans and tea. This Burr-House and craft gallery is open to the public where you can see the Burr-House Spinners and Weavers as well as the Hill Potter's guide are two local artisans (Burr House Craft Gallery).
  • Radial Railway in Richmond Hill

    Radial Railway in Richmond Hill
    The Radial railway arrived in 1896. This was a milestone since it was the first ever railway car in Richmond Hill and brought electrical lights to the village at the time. This was an interurban electrical line connecting industrial area to commercial. Arriving on the Metropolitan Street Railway Company. This railway was an electrical line that ran up Yonge Street from the Toronto City limits to a terminus at Lorne Avenue in the heart of Richmond Hill (Early Days in Richmond Hill).
  • Richmond Hill Public School

    Richmond Hill Public School
    The Mcconaghy Centre located at 10100 Yonge St is where the former Richmond Hill public school was located and is in honour of Mary Lillian Mcconaghy. The site was donated by James Miles in the early 1800's and used for educational purposes.This was designed and built in 1914 by James Inn and William Graham.This building was significant as it was the symbol of public education in Richmond Hill. Many of those soldiers that were involved in the war went to this school to receive primary education.

    Old Richmond Hill Public School
    The school was in honor of M.L Mcconaghy who attended to school for 40 years as a student and a teacher. When the school was built in 1915 it costed a total of $28,300 and was built in a queen revival style school. The school was located on Yonge Street because it was considered a prime location in the town of Richmond Hill at that time. The town of Richmond Hill acquired this centre serving for the senior citizens of our community. It is now used for educational purposes.

    The Cenotaph in Richmond Hill located in front of the former Richmond Hill High School opened in 1923. This was a milestone to Richmond Hill because this memorial was constructed in memory of those men who sacrificed their lives to be involved in the Great War between 1914-1918. The memorial has expanded to men killed in other wars. Also this is significant to Richmond Hill because this is the oldest memorial in the GTA area. The memorial has made us reflect on those involved in the war.
  • David Dunlap Observatory

    David Dunlap Observatory
    The David Dunlap Observatory lies on a 72 foot hectare park that also contains notable building including the Great Telescope Dome (1935),The Beaux Arts Classical Administrational building(1932-33), and the Radio Shack that was built in 1956 (National Trust of Canada). The David Dunlap Observatory was donated to University of Torontohy by David’s widow Donalda Dunlap in 1924 seven years after David Dunlap passed away. The David Dunlap Observatory still exists but land is used for building homes.

    Opening of David Dunlap Observatory
    The David Dunlap Observatory first opened in May of 1935. This was significant because this was the first ever telescope built in Richmond Hill and has evolved to become the second largest telescope in the world and largest in Canada. This is a significant milestone because of the fact that this telescope is still alive as of today as has become one of the biggest attraction and a major landmark in Richmond Hill. The David Dunlap is significant as it's associated to Canada's field of astronomy.

    Another major event that occurred in Richmond Hill was the opening of the first ever Harvey’s restaurant back in 1959 located on Observatory Lane and Yonge Street. This was significant because this was the beginning of the evolution of the Harvey’s burger fast food chain that has evolved into over 250 Harvey’s in all of Canada. This was a milestone because this was the first ever Harvey’s in Canada and began in Richmond Hill. As of today the Harvey's is demolished and taken over by condo's.

    The Opening of The Phyllis Rawlinson Park
    In 1995 Richmond Hill native Phyllis Rawlinson passed away but prior to passing away she donated the park to Richmond Hill. For this sake the town opened the park in 2001. This was a milestone because it was 89.5 acres of land and the largest park in Richmond Hill and one of the oldest since the original owner sold it in 1840 to George Forster. Also the opening of this park was a milestone consisting of both the George Forster house and Robert Holland Interpretive Center two integral buildings.

    The Robert Holland Interpretive Centre is a building that is significant to the Phyllis Rawlinson Park. The Robert Holland Interpretive Centre previous known as "Shaw House" donated in 1997 by Mr.Robert Holland. The house was moved to Rawlinson Park. As of today the Robert Holland Interpretive Centre is used to explore about nature, get involved in environmental activities, and outdoor educational programs. This was a milestone in commemorative of Robert Holland a long time resident.

    In 1896 the railway was given approval to proceed 16 km from Glen Echo further north to Richmond Hill. The track extension began October 26,1896 and finished on November 19. A total round trip accumulated to 55 cents. The final car trundled down Newmarket through Richmond Hill March 16,1930
  • Bur-House Craft Gallery

    Bur-House Craft Gallery
    In the year 1808 10 year old Reuben Burr decided to learn about Carpentry and for 7 years Rowland had to work in his father's shop. In 1820's Rowland Burr built a four room Onatrio cottage of plank-on-plank construction. In 1844 Thomas Boothy purchased the property from Samuel Sanderson. This home that he built can be seen in Black Creek Pioneer Village and he died in 1866 in a home he built on Adelaide Street in Toronto.This was significant because it began carpentry in Richmond Hill.
