Magna Carta
The document was a series of written promises between the king and his subjects that he, the king, would govern England and deal with its people according to the customs of feudal law. -
Jamestown Settled
Jamestown was the arrival of Settlers into Indiana territory and it is named after King James. This is the beginning of a government revolution. -
Mayflower Compact Written
It was the first written framework of government established in the U.S..The compact was writtene to prevent dissent amongst Puritans and non-separatist Pilgrims who had landed at Plymouth. -
Petition of Right
This serves as Parliament having the objection to King Charles. The four main points are:
No taxes could be levied without Parliament's consent.
No English subject could be imprisoned without cause--thus reinforcing the right of habeas corpus.
No quartering of soldiers in citizens homes.
No martial law may be used in peacetime. -
English Bill of Rights
The Bill creates separation of powers, limits the powers of the king and queen, enhances the democratic election and bolsters freedom of speech. -
Albany Plan of Union
It was a proposal to creat a unified government for the Thriteen Colonies which was suggested by Ben Franklin. -
Stamp Act
Americans were forced to pay taxes on every piece of paper they owned including bills, legal documents, newspapers, and playing cards. -
Boston Massacre
Patriots were throwing things at a squad of British soldiers. The troops killed two men. This became propaganda for the U.S. because they thought that many more were killed and the event was more sevre than this. -
Boston Tea Party
Americans were fed up with the extreme taxation from the British so they threw their tea in the Boston Harbor in protest. -
Intolerable Acts
Acts passed by British Parliament as punishment on the Americans as result of the Boston Tea Party. -
First Continental Congress
Representativese from each of the Thirteen Colonies except Georgia came togethe to discuss the response to the intolerable acts. -
Second Continental Congress
12 delegates of the Thirteen Colonies came together in Philadelphia to draw up a statement in regards to the actions of the British Parliament. -
American Revolution Begins
This was the first time that Americans actually fought for their independence. They fought against Great Britain's cruel laws and taxes. -
Declaration of Independence
This laid out the rights of all citizens and announced its separation from British rule. -
Article of Confederation
The representatives of the thirteen states agree to create a confederacy called the United States of America, in which each state maintains its own sovereignty and all rights to govern, except those rights specifically granted to Congress. -

New England farmers led rebelled because they wanted to be paid for their service in the Revolutionary War. -
