    Fort Sumter was the opening battle of the Civil War. Fort Sumter was one of the last forts the North had. The South was suspicious of Lincoln sending provisions so they attacked. Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers to battle against the South but had to surrender on April 14, 1861.

    The First Battle of Bull Run was 25 miles from Washington D.C. The press and the public were clamoring for action. Lincoln then decided to attack with his. 30,000 Union troops going on offense. The Union gained the upper hand but then the Confederate reinforcements arrived and caused the Union to retreat. This battle was a Southern victory.

    Pickett’s Charge for the Confederates was a very famous but failing charge in the Battle of Gettysburg. This charge led with 15,000 men and 10,000 casualties. This charge led to the Confederates' surrender.
