    THE DARK AGES

    The Dark Ages as a term has undergone many evolutions; its definition depends on who is defining it. Indeed, modern historians no longer use the term because of its negative connotation. Generally, the Dark Ages referred to the period of time ushered in by the fall of the Western Roman Empire. This took place when the last Western emperor, Romulus Augustulus, was deposed by Odoacer, a barbarian.

In all, eight major Crusade expeditions occurred between 1096 and 1291.     BARROCO Florentine Camerata

    A meeting in Florence during the late Renaissance where a group of humanists discuss the future and trends of music and drama during the time. Under the patronage of Count Giovanni Bardi, significant contributors Giulio Caccini, Vincenzo Galilei, and Giralamo Mei discuss the idea of using greek drama as a model for music. This concept would lead to monody and shape baroque opera.

    SOCIETY, POLITICS AND RELIGION.

    Cultural development in the Baroque period happened in a social, economic,
    religious and political depression. A new outbreak of bubonic plague, frequent wars and a
    long period of bad harvests suddenly slowed down demographic growth. The lack of food
    paralysed commercial development and made social differences more extreme.
  • BARROCO INSTRUMENTS

    Usually carrying the song where a basso continuo group, which consisted of a chord-playing instrumentalist like a harpsichord or lute and bass-type instruments carrying the bassline, like a cello or double bass.     Vivaldi appointed Violin teacher of L'Ospedale della Pieta. He wrote many works for the women of the convent. One of his major works for the women of the convent was L'Estro Armonico, a set of 4 concertos. He was nicknamed the Red Priest.
