Naviagtion Acts
The British created this act to make sure only England received all of the profits from colonial trade. The colonists wanted to ship to other areas besides England, so they began smuggling goods. -
Proclamation of 1763
Parliament stopped all movement to the west past the Appalacian Mountains to gain control of the land. The colonists were furious that they could move west, especially the ones who had already bought land past the boundry. -
Suagr Act
Parliament lowered the tax on sugar so that colonists so that they would actually pay the tax. The colonists resented this tax because it didn't do anything to help them. -
Stamp Act
Parliament decided to place a stamp on every piece of official paper, and taxed the colonists for it. Colonists didn't want to have to pay the tax, so they protested the act and got it repealed. -
Declatory Act
This act stated that Parliament had the right to tax the colonies. This was because of all the protests and resentment toward the other taxes by the colonists. The colonists were outraged that England was taking control and taxing them unfairly. -
Townshend Acts
Parliament put large taxes on the most common goods such as glass, tea, and paper. Colonists hated all the taxes and boycotted against it. -
Tea Act
This act let companies sell directly to shopkeepers and bypass colonial merchants. The colonial merchants decided to boycott against it. -
Coercive Acts
Parliament made this act to punish people in Massachusetts for resistence to the British law. Colonists became angry that their rights were being taken away. -
Quebec Acts
Parliament gave the land beyong the Appalacian Mountains to Quebec. Colonists were outraged that their claims to the land were ignored. This led to new acts created by the colonists called the Intolerable Acts.
