Neils Bohr's family history and early scientific start
Neils Bohr was a Danish physicist who was born into a family of forward thinkers. Niels Bohr had two siblings and parents who were passionate about their children recieving excelent education. His father was a Philosophy professor and his mother was the aughter of a poitician. When his father brought home collegues from work they woud often speak about scientific developments and theories an allowed the three children to listen in. No wonder the children had such a passion for education! -
Niels Bohrs undergraduate award and future education.
As an undergraduate in the year 1905 the Danish Academy of Sciences announced that they would award a gold medal to the best research paper with the topic of water tension. Niels Bohr worked for months utilizing his fathers laboratory conducting experiments and writing his paper and he won! This was just the beginning to his excellent rise to scientific forefront.. Bohr recieved his B.S degree in 1907 and his M.S. and Ph. D in Physics. -
Niels Bohr's contribution to science
In Manchester 1912 Nils Bohr began looking into the work being done by Max Planck and Albert Einstein in the field of quantum mechanics. In 1913 Bohr began utilizing a formula created by the mathmetician Johann Balmer that was created to study the wavelengths of light when emitted by hot hydrogen. Bohr w able to finally make sense of the movement of electrons! He then shared his theory and became the father of quantum mechanics. -
Bohr's contribution to science continued
I would like to utilize a quote from the famousScientists.org website about Neils Bohrs influence on science. "Niels Bohr completely tranformed our view of the atom and of the world. Realizing that classical physics fails catastrophically when things are atom-sized or smaller, he remodled the atom so electrons occupied "allowed" orbits aroung the nucleus while all otherorbits were forbidden. In doing so he founded quantum mechanics." -
