Cleanliness
In the morning they were given one small cup of water to clean there dishes and wash there dishes.
The water was not to drink because it may have contained mustard gas and that would eventually kill the soldier who drunk it. -

John Joseph Brennan only served for 2 years.
He served from 1917-1919. -
Work Conditions
Most of the work they did was at night. They were lucky if they got more than 3 or 4 hours of free time. If the infantry and the engineers were on the move so were they. Someties they went day and night. -
