  • Archduke Franz Ferdinand is assassinated

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand is assassinated
Archduke Francis Ferdinand, which was heir to the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary has been murdered mid-day. Along with his wife Duchess of Hohenberg was also shot dead and murdered by an eighteen-year-old boy, this horrible act was carried out in front of the Bosnian capital. The boy had a revolver, ran up on them and shot them. The noteable thing is that this was the second attempt to murder them in the same day! Earlier that day they had a bomb thrown at their royal car.
  • Mobility of Russian Army

    Mobility of Russian Army
To have an army in itself is something great and mighty powerful for a country, but to have a mobile army that can take over and invade other countries territory is ten times better! With the growing pressure of surrounding countries armies, Russia was in a race to get mobile; but so was Germany. Germany maybe did not want to go to war as they gave Russia a 12-hour ultimatum to stop war. Russia did not back down. With alike minds and goals, they set off to fight each other in war.
  • World War I Begins

    World War I Begins
The day leading up to August 4th 1914, Germany has so bravely declared war upon on France, thus taking over Belgium. Now on the 4th of August Great Britain has so graciously declared war back on Germany. Amazingly this same day in history The United States has declared their neutrality. The thing that Great Britain may not know about declaring war upon Germany is that they have allies. In times of war Germany can rely on Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India and South Africa for support.
  • Germans & Gas

    Germans & Gas
On this day in April 22nd 1915, the new design of chemical warfare was introduced; this time in a form of gas. This new type of gas is called chlorine gas, this gas is poisonous and when is released makes a large green cloud that will kill whatever breathes it. The Germans released 5,000 cylinders of this gas on the French. Not having the proper equipment to breathe through the gas, the French African divisions army retreat. This creates a five mile gap between the two, neither of them gain.
  • Lusitania Sinks

    Lusitania Sinks
As World War I carries out between the two super powers of Germany and Great Britain, through thick and thin of the war there were some maybe uncalled actions from both sides. One that is very reasonable to point of is the sinking of the passenger liner Lusitania. This was a passenger boat not a military boat, a German U-boat had launched torpedoes at it thus sinking it with 1,201 people on board including some Americans. This then caught our attention thus enticing us to join the war.
  • U-boat withdrawl

    U-boat withdrawl
You’d think a world super power such as Germany would not have a change for heart during times of war; but they did. On this day in 1915 Germany announces that the U-boat and the campaign that was behind it would no longer be. This just after the daunting protests from The United States because the passenger liner Lusitania had been carrying Americans on board when it was sunk. As a country I think that the US was a little intimidated by the war so they called for protest against the country.
  • First Tanks

    First Tanks
You’d assume after fighting each other for so long in traditional warfare that one of them would come up with some greater offensive military unit over the other. Then the tank is made, no not Germany but Great Britain with the brilliant invention of the tank. These did not look like modern day tanks, yes, they were mobile but featured two side cannons and a total of four machine guns; to operate this beast you needed a total of eight men. The British advanced their lines an easy 2,000 yards.
  • Submarines are BACK!

    Submarines are BACK!
After all Germany never had a change for heart during this war but rather a more strategical plan behind the ending of the U-boat. Without announcing its re-arrival, subs were starting to be used again in war against Great Britain. The reasoning for the ending of the U-boat the first time was because the rally against Germany from the U.S. This time their goal was to end Britain once and for all with their glorified submarines. Their plan was to cut off all British imports thus starving them.
  • U.S. engages War

    U.S. engages War
Leading up to our entry of WWI on April 6th, 1917, The United States has had total justification to enter the war on behalf. During this era, The President of The United States was President Woodrow Wilson. What had set Wilson of firstly was the sinking of Lusitania, which was holding over 100 American lives. The renewal of the submarine by Germany is really what set Wilson off thus declaring war upon Germany. We did not need to, but we decided to ally with Great Britain and the French.
