A new Loop
The organizers of the L.A Marathon race introduced a new downtown loop course beginning at Figurora / 8th st and ending at La City Library on flower / 5th st. -
Elevation Matters
Divine Racing Purchased the rights to the L.A Marathon in 2004. Divine Racing modified the course to decrease elevation Gaines with the hopes of generating faster finishing times for the runners. -
Point to Point Race
The L.A Marathon course once again changed this time starting south of Universal CIty and ending at the L.A Library. -
Dodgers and the L.A Marathon
During September 2008 L.A Dodgers baseball team Owner Frank through LA MARATHON LLC purchased the operation rights to the L.A marathon. This new ownership changed the start line to the Dodger Stadium and the finished at the Santa Monica Pier. -
Stadium of the Sea Coarse
The stadium of the Sea Coarse is the most recent and final change to the L.A Marathon Coarse which starts at dodger stadium and ends at the Santa Monica Pier. -
17% Drop in participation
When trying to appease different religious groups located near the route (who for years had complained that street closures on race day negatively impacted their parishioners’ ability to attend Sunday service) the L.A Marathon changed the start day to Monday May 25th. Resulting in the problematic date change there was a 17% drop in participation. This was the last time the L.A Marathon was help on a Monday. -
Come one, Come All
Because of the new found enthusiasm of the new coarse route more than 26,045 people registered. This made the new coarse the largest field in the history of the event. -
Silver Anniversary Edition
The Silver Anniversary edition was a special limited edition coarse.Parts of the marathon were ran outside of the LA city limits like West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and West L.A. -
Decreased Elevation leads to the fastest mens time
Because of the new found decreased elevation brought by Divine Racing Markos Geneti of Ethiopia finished first place at 2:06:35 which is the fastest mens time to date. -
Decreased Elevation leads to fastest Mens wheelchair time
Tom Davis of U.S made history finishing as the fastest wheelchair mens marathon time to date of 1:06:52. -

L.A Marathon Paired with Snapchat to set a world record of over 40 different Marathon-inspired Geo-filters. -
Decreased elevation course brings womens marathon record
With more talks of the excellent decreased elevation of the L.A Marathon stadium of the seas course Askale Marachi of Ethiopia finished first place in the women's division this year. With the fastest time to date in the women's category of 2:24:11. Stadium of the seas Marathon route remains the most recent and successful marathon route ever.
