Chapter 1 - The Sound of the Shell
This time period is during World War ll. A plane with English boys has been shot down, landing on a deserted Island. First thing is Ralph & Piggy find each other. Later on, Piggy and Ralph discover a pink conch which then Piggy convinces Ralph to blow in it, having other boys come to them. Some include a group of choir boys who are led by Jack and others are little boys. Ralph is chosen as leader not Jack. The title of this chapter represents the conch bringing everyone together. -
Chapter 2 - Fire on the Mountain
Ralph calls for a meeting. They all agreed that whoever is holding the conch will be the only ones speaking during the meetings. Piggy yells because of the fact no one is noticing they could be stuck on the island for a while.One of the children calm they have seen a beast the night before.Which scared the rest of the boys but the older boys say he had a nightmare.At the end they decide to make a fire on top of a mountain as a signal for ships which is why it goes with the chapter title as well. -
Chapter 3 - Huts on the Beach
Ralph and Simon build huts for themselves and the littleuns.No one helps them out which frustrates Ralph. Jack tries to kill a pig with his boys but fail. They say they want meat so they can avoid helping build huts and the littleuns play in the lagoon.This shows that they don't take action for there responsibilities because there are no rules.Simon at the end of this chapter finds a place on the island alone and stays there.The title of this chapter signifies the building of the shelters. -
Chapter 4 - Painted Faces and Long Hair
Roger joins Maurice on destroying the littleuns sand castles and Maurice throws rocks but misses on purpose. Later on jack is obsessed with catching a pig so he paints his face with the other boys as well. They manage to kill a pig but Ralph and piggy see a ship pass by but the fire is out because of jack and the hunters not watching it. Ralph gets furious at jack. The title of this chapter indicates the hunting and describes they've been there for a while because there hair is getting long. -
Chapter 5 - Beast from Water
Ralph thinks to himself and notices how his long hair is bothering him. He then calls for a meeting, blowing through the conch. He explains how no one is helping get water, build huts or do anything. Also how the fear of the beast isn't going away. One of the boys says he's seen the beast itself. They ask him where this beast comes from and he says the ocean. Ralph then later tells Simon and Piggy he might drop as being leader but they convince him to not, that they need his guidance. -
Chapter 6 - Beast from Air
SamnEric go check on the fire and end up seeing shadows. They go get Ralph to tell him what they saw but mistakenly said it was the beast but it actually was a dead parachutist. They then go in the forest looking for the beast. All but piggy and the littleuns. They find a new part of the island that they enjoyed which lost there focus. Ralph snaps out of it then tells the boys to go back to get the fire going again. Beast from the air means the parachutist coming from above scaring the boys. -
Chapter 7 - Shadows and Tall Trees
Ralph thinks as the ocean being a wall for them to escape but Simon regains his hope by saying he will make it home. Late in the afternoon there are pig droppings from the hunters trying to kill a pig. They all try killing it but they don't succeed. The boys then play around and Robert acts like the pig. He could of got hurt if he didn't pull himself out. Jack then challenges Ralph to go up the mountain to look for the beast. So he does go. They find an ape like shadow moving scaring them all. -
Chapter 8 - Gift for the Darkness
The next day they call for an assembly.Jack says that there is a beast up in the mountain but also calls Ralph a coward.That he should lose his leadership.Jack leaves & says whoever wants to join him they may.Ralph is depressed,not knowing what to do and piggy tells him to build a fire down by the beach.Jack later that day kills a pig and tells Ralph & piggy to feast with them if they liked,so they did.Simon then finds the pigs head,he's paranoid as if the pig was talking to him & faints. -
Chapter 9 - A View of Death
Simon has awoken from being unconscious.He notices the dead parachutist that is moving back and forth. Simon figures out that the beast everyone thinks is, actually is the parachutist. He then walks out the mountain to tell all the boys what he when storm is coming there way. Jack and his boy start dancing, saying phrases and just are wild. Simon then gets beat up by Jack and the hunters accidentally and dies. His body then gets cleaned up by the ocean. A view of death stands for Simon's death. -
Chapter 10 - The Shell and the Glasses
The next morning Piggy and Ralph remember what happened the night before and they feel ashamed.Ralph considers it as a murder but Piggy refers it as an accident. Jacks tribe is now at the Castle rock. Jack punishes Wilfred for no reason. He tied him up and beats him. Jack has some boys guard to keep looking out for the beast and him and Maurice and roger are going to steal Piggy's glasses so they can build there own fire. Later that night they did attack and stole the glasses. -
Chapter 11 - Castle Rock
By morning Piggy is mad & wants to go get his glasses back.Piggy, Ralph and SamnEric all go with the conch to remind them of the rules. Jack and Ralph get into an argument and start fighting. SamnEric get taken by the hunters and tie them up. Piggy then starts yelling.Roger shoves a massive rock down the mountain.It lands on the conch breaking it and pushes Piggy off the mountain side.Piggy is now dead & cleaned by the ocean. Ralph quickly runs away while SamnEric are forced to join jacks tribe. -
Chapter 12 - Cry of the Hunters
Ralph comes back and sees SamnEric. The twins give him food. Ralph tells them to come with him but they refuse. By the morning, Ralph hears Jack talking to one of the twins asking were Ralph must be hiding and beats him. Ralph then smells smoke and realizes Jack has set the jungle on fire. They chase for Ralph but he finally gets out of the jungle and falls. He looks back up seeing a naval officer. Jack & the boys stop the chasing and all the boys start crying.They are saved because of the fire.
