The Crash
A plane carrying British School Boys crashes on a deserted island in the Pacific Ocean. The pilot cannot be found so he is presumed dead. -
The Summoning
Ralph and Piggy, two of the schoolboys, find a conch in the water. Ralph blows into the conch, whoe noise summon the rest of the boys on the island. -
The Election
The schoolboys hold an election for chief. Two of the schoolboys, Ralph and Jack (who was the leader of a boy choir before the crash) run for chief. Ralph wins the election and becomes the chief of the boys. He also allows Jack to be the leader of a group of boy who become hunters. -
The Fire
After the election Ralph, Jack and Simon( an older child) go and explore the island. After they explore the island Ralph exclaims that they should build a fire that can be used to catch the attention of passing ships that might rescue them. Jack volunteers his hunters services for upkeep of the fire. The fire is lit using the glasses of Piggy, a fat but rational schoolboy. However, the fire soon gets out of control and one of the littluns (the slang for young children) goes missing. -

The First Week
Approximitly a week passes between the first day and the next events in the book. -
Huts
Ralph starts to build shelters with the help of some of the other boys. However many of the other boys soon get distracted leaving Ralph and Simon to do most of the work. Jack starts to hunt but has no luck. -

The Month of Long Hair and Tan Skin
Approximitly a month passes between the hut building and the next major events in the book. Ralph remarks that the boys are growing long hair and that their skin is darkening. Some of the older boys (espeically Roger) begin to pick on some of the younger ones and their pshycopatic quailites begin to show. -
The First Kill
Jack and the Hunters kill their first pig. At the same time Ralph and some of the others see the smoke of a far away ship. Ralph goes to the fire and finds out that it has gone out. Ralph becomes mad at the hunters for their lack of attention to the fire. However, Jac k points out that the hunters have made their first kill and everyone, including Ralph, begins to celebrate. -
The Reenactment
The boys soon began to reenact the killing of the pig. Roger goes into the center of the circle and volunteers to act as the pig. The boys soon begin shouting "Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Bash her in." Roger becomes the pig in the reenactment and is hurt during that reenactment. -
The Beast
At the night assembly, one of the young children remarks that he has been seeing a beast late at night. This remark sends a wave of fear around the group of boys and causes much fear in the littlun's. Ralph tries to tell the littlun's that there is nothing to fear, but many do not buy into his explaination. Jack remarks that if there is a beast, his hunters will go and find it. -
The Parachutist
Sam and Eric, two older twins, are out watching the fire after the assembly in which the beast was discussed. In the middle of the night, a dogfight occurs and a dead parachutist falls out of his plane onto the island. Sam and Eric, who had fallen asleep see the shadow of the dead man and go tell the others that they saw the beast. -
The Hunt for the Beast PT2
Ralph, Roger, and Jack then begin to climb up the mountain in the darkness. Ralph and Roger then stay behind and wait, while Jack proceeds to the top. Jack soon sees the beast as he walks up to the top of the mountain, and quickly runs down to tell the others. Ralph and Roger also climb to the topof the mountain and see the beast after Jack goes to tell the others. -
The Hunt for the Beast PT 1
After Sam and Eric alert the boys about the beast that they beleive they saw, a hunting party led by Ralph, Simon, and Jack go out to hunt the beast. However, they are soon sidetracked by the apperence of fresh boar droppings. The group instead goes and hunts the boar. After the boar is killed they do another reenactment in which they nearly kill a boy. After they hunt the boar the group continues up to the mountain. As night falls, they began to climb the mountain. -
The Schism
Thenext morning Jack grabs the conch and calls an assembly. At that assembly, Jack says that Ralphshould be removed as chief because of the cowardice that he showed the night before. However, no one other then himself votes for Ralph to be removed. Jack then exclaims that he is going to create a tribe of his own and advises his hunters to join him. Many soon go and join Jack's tribe because of the promise of fresh meat. -
The Lord of the Flies PT 1
While the rest of the boys are at the feast, Simon goes into the forest clearing where he goes to watch nature. However he is greeted by the sows head which Jack's tribe placed in that clearing as an offering to the beast. Simon begins to have visions of the Sow's head (which is now called the Lord of the Flies because of all of the flies which now swarm it) speaking to him. The Lord of the Flies exclaims to Simon that will never be able to escape the beast. Simon then promptly faints. -
The Lord of the Flies PT 2
After Simon awakes, he walks toward the mountain. He then sees the dead parachutist and notices that this is what the boy's have been calling the beast this whole time. He then goes and "frees" the parachute from the mountain, which he hopes will alleavate the fear of the beast. Simon then walks toward the glimmer of Jack's fire. Simon then walks up to the fire. Jack's tribe is in a savage state and is reenacting the killing of the sow. Simon walks up into the circle and is killed by the boy's -
The Feast
During the day Jack's tribe goes hunting and violently kills a Sow.They impale the sows head on a spear and leave it in a clearin as an offering for the beast. Meanwhile,the members of Jack's tribe then go and steal fire from Ralph. The boys who remained with Ralph are invited to a feast that night with Jack's tribe. Ralph and his remaining followers (except Simon) then go to the feast, attracted by the smell of cooked meat. Jack then invites everyone in Ralph's tribe to join Jack's tribe. -
The Triumph of Savagery
The next morning Ralph and Piggy discover that everyone except Sam and Eric and some lilttuns have joined Jacks tribe. They all struggle to deal with their roles in Simon's death. Meanwhile jack roles as a dictator and believes that Simon was really the beast. Jack is then told that he has no way to light a fire. So, late at night, Jack and some of his fellow tribesman go and steal Piggy's glasses; the only way to light a fire on the island. -
The Last Assembly
The next morning Ralph and the others discover that Piggy's glasses are gone. Ralph then gets the conch and calls one last assembly. The remaining boy's decide that they must go to Jack's tribe and try to work their disputes out with Jack. Ralph gives Piggy the conch and they walk over to Castle Rock, where Jack's tribe is staying. They are met with armed guards at Catsle Rock who tell them to leave. Jack and some hunters then come out from the forest. -
The Struggle
Ralph demands that Jack return Piggy's glasses, and Jack demands that Ralph leaves. A fight between Jack and Ralph then begins. The fight ends when Ralph tries to explain the importance of fire to Jack. Jack then makes his tribe tie Sam and Eric up. This infuriates Ralph to the point that a second fight begins. Piggy then screams and tries to end the fight, but to no anvil. Roger then throws a massive rock at piggy, killing him and shattering the conch. Ralph is then forced to flee. -
Ralph's Flight
Ralph, wounded, is forced into hiding in a clearing. In this clearing he finds the skull of a sow mounted on a spear. He knocks this skull to the ground and decides to use the spear as a weapon against Jack. Meanwhile Sam and Eric are tortured into joing Jack's tribe. Ralph returns to Castle Rock and finds Sam and Eric on guard duty. Sam and Eric tell Ralph that Jack is going to hunt him tomorrow and that Ralph should leave. Ralph tells the twins where he will stay in hopes that they wouldnt tel -
The Hunt
When Jack's tribe is awaken the next morning they promptly begin to search for Ralph. Sam and Eric tell Jack where Ralph is hiding, so Ralph fends off the first attacks but soon begins to smell smoke. Ralph realises that Jack's tactic is to burn him out of the forest. Ralph runs deeper and deeper into the forest hoping to escape the flames and Jack's tribe. Ralph then runs onto the beach with Jack's entire tribe behind him. There Ralph collaspes from exhaustion. -
The Savior
As Ralph collaspes on the sand he looks up and sees the shoe buckle of a naval officer. The officer tells him that his ship came to the island because of the smoke caused by the burning island.The boys all soon begin to sob, amazed by the thought of rescue.
