Became a teacher
William became a teacher for english and philosophy at Bishop Wordswroth School in Salisbury. William's expierience teaching boys later serves as inspiration to write his novel "Lord of the Flies." -
Joined Royal Navy
William joined the navy during world war 2. He fought battleships at the sinking of the bismark, and also fended off submarines and planes. -
Went back to teaching
Although William found a passion for the navy and the sea, he went back to teaching in 1945. But his time as an officer, like his teaching, would soon helpful in creating his next novels. -
Published first novel
William published his first novel "lord of the flies" after 21 rejections. This book, like many others of his, showed the internal struggle between good and evil. -
