  • 136 Days Before

    Miles Halter leaves for his new life in Alabama after a farewell party, that only two people dropped by to say goodbye, to the school his father attended called Culver Creek. His parents ask him why he's going. Is it because he has no friends here? Is it because his father went to Culver Creek? Neither of those possibilities were the reason. Miles wanted to find his Great Perhaps, in the words of François Rabelais.
  • 128 Days Before

    Miles Halter leaves for Alabama, heading to a boarding school that his father attended called Culver Creek. Once he arrives, he meets his roommate Chip Martin, or the Colonel. He meets Alaska and purchases cigarettes from her. Chip has a nickname, so he gives Miles one (Pudge). The trio along with another friend go and smoke down by the lake. It’s Miles’ first time smoking and he coughs a lot but continues smoking. This symbolizes Miles starting over to find his “great perhaps”.
  • 127 Days Before

    Miles meets the Eagle as he gives Miles his schedule and paperwork. The food at Culver Creek, made by Maureen. She served deep fried bean burritos. The crew mentions what happened with Marya and Paul. Later, Miles wakes up to Kevin and someone else taking him from his dorm. They duct tape his entire body and throw him in the lake. He manages to swim to shore, and storms back to his dorm, stopping by Alaska’s first. When he gets back, Miles tells the Colonel about being taped, angering him.
  • 126 Days Before

    The Colonel declares war on Kevin and the rich kids, and tells Miles that they peed in his shoes. They go to their respective classes, and get to lunch. Takumi mentions that Alaska is upset at what happened with Miles the previous night. Later, Miles meets Dr. Hyde, or the Old Man and realizes this religion class is not going to be an easy A, as he is very strict about learning, Alaska teases Miles about being thrown in the lake and leaves, leaving him to his thoughts about her.
  • 122 Days Before

    Miles meets the Colonel's girlfriend Sara when she comes to pick him up to see the opera with her parents. The Colonel had been rushing around, trying to iron a shirt, but it was wrinkled beyond repair and he wore a flamingo tie. Sara and the Colonel have an argument over ironing, and she ends up leaving without him. Later, she ends up calling the pay phone and talks to the Colonel, accusing him of ratting out Marya and Paul, hence the shoes and taping Miles.
  • 110 Days Before

    Miles gets called out of Dr. Hyde's class for looking out the window for a few seconds and Alaska stands up for him in front of the class, and they both end up getting removed from the class. She suggests they search for a four leaf clover. Alaska soon finds one and plucks the runt leaf off. The rest of the group soon go to an abandoned barn and smoke. Miles asks Alaska why she smokes so fast. She says, "Y'all smoke to enjoy it. I smoke to die."

    The first basketball game of the school year and the Colonel wants to attend. At the game, Kevin tries to create a truce with the Colonel, but the Colonel doesn't want it. During the basketball game against a Christian school in downtown Birmingham, the Colonel makes a lot of noise, trying to distract the players. Eventually, the opposing team's coach asks for him to be removed. Miles and the Colonel leave willingly, the Colonel has continued his streak.
  • 101 Days Before

    Miles and the crew pile into Alaska's car (Blue Citrus) and drive to McDonald's. Lara sits on Miles' lap, and they greet each other. Once they get there, they get 7 large fries to share and Alaska teaches everyone precalc.
  • 100 Days Before

    Miles learns the meaning behind Alaska's name, which she chose herself from looking at her fathers' globe. He also learns what she wants to do after she graduates. Go to college and teach disabled children. They almost have a romantic moment, but Alaska stops it and reflects on their conversation and once again mentions the labyrinth that everyone has.
  • 99 Days Before

    The Colonel runs out of cigarettes and he goes to Alaska to get more. Miles pays for them, Marlboro Lights, and they go down to the lake and smoke with Takumi. Unfortunately for them, the Eagle catches them, and tells them to be at the Jury the next day at five to determine a punishment.
  • 98 Days Before

    Miles goes to the Jury forty minutes early, and everyone soon meets him there. Alaska's been caught smoking seven times previously, so she knows what to do. The Colonel and Alaska both tell Miles to stay quiet. The Colonel lies to the Jury, saying only Alaska and him were smoking, and the two receive ten work hours washing dishes in the cafeteria. Afterwards, the Eagle stops Miles and tells him not to abuse his privileges at this school.
  • 89 Days Before

    While hanging out, the Colonel reading for English, Alaska announces she found Miles a girlfriend. The girl that sat on his lap on the way to McDonald's, named Lara. The Colonel makes a comment about her breasts and Alaska yells at him for objectifying women's bodies. Apparently, Jake is coming to Birmingham for the weekend so Alaska set up a 3.5 date for Miles and Lara, Colonel and Sara, Alaska and Jake, and Takumi.
  • 87 Days Before

    The day of the date, Jake arrives, meets Miles, and Alaska can't keep her lips off him. The group of seven go to the basketball game and Alaska tells him to sit beside her. She goes on and on about how great Jake is in his band. Meanwhile, the Colonel agonizes the Beast and he throws the ball in their direction, hitting Miles, concussing him. He vomits on Lara, and goes to the hospital. Later, Colonel tells Miles about Sara telling Jake that he was hard-on for Alaska. Sara and Colonel broke up.
  • 84 Days Before

    While Miles recovered from his concussion, it begins to rain in Alabama. The lake flooded, it was continuous rain for days. Colonel stayed in the dorm when not in class and played video games. Miles hadn't spoken to Lara since he vomited on her at the game, feeling awkward about it. Miles went to the cafeteria where he saw Alaska sitting against a window. He sat with her and asked her what was wrong, and she seemed really lost and quiet, even though she said nothing was wrong.

    In class, the Colonel had an epiphany about Sara, "a complete and total b****". Dr. Hyde mentions a paper for the class that is due in two months and worth 50% of your overall grade. After class, Miles and Colonel rush back to their dorm in the pouring rain, but encounter a furious Alaska. Kevin and his friends flooded Alaska's room, using the drainage pipe from the roof leading the water right through her window. They make a promise to get revenge.
  • 67 Days Before

    The flood was over, no more torrential downpours and everyone was loving it. Miles was studying for American History, the Civil War. Takumi brings him an oatmeal cream pie as a snack and they talk about Alaska. He tells Miles that Alaska ratted out Paul and Marya for being drunk on school property to the Eagle after catching her in her car with a bottle of wine trying to see Jake. Takumi warns Miles about the prank from Alaska and Colonel and tells him that if he gets caught, take the blame.
  • 58 Days Before

    Alaska is in Miles' dorm when he wakes up, playing "Decapitation". She explains that Jake is busy studying during the break and she made a list of why Miles should stay with her at school. Alaska convinces him with drinking in the forest and the meal the French teacher is preparing. Miles calls his parents and tells them he isn't coming home for Thanksgiving, due to excess work. They tell him they're going to England instead, and he gets homesick. Alaska comforts him by the lake.

    Everyone is returning home, Lara getting picked up in a limo, Takumi to the airport, and Colonel getting picked up by his mother. After everyone disperses, Alaska and Miles goes to find her hidden stash of wine buried in the ground. The pair takes turns drinking from the bottle and Alaska reads a book. Afterwards, they lay next to each other and have a tiny moment talking about the labyrinth.
  • 51 Days Before

    Alaska wakes Miles up early to get a head start on her plans for the week. They sneak into a Weekday Warrior dorm, through the window of course, with fancy furniture and lots of hair products. Alaska plots to put industrial-strength blue hair dye in their hair products to hit them where it hurts. Once they get out of the dorm room, through the window again, the pair go to the Hole.

    Alaska and Miles go on a hunt for inappropriate movies and magazines in dorm rooms. They find plenty of alcohol and adult magazines and one movie. Miles and Alaska go to the TV room and lock the door, hiding from everyone so they could play the movie. Alaska talks about romance when it comes to the inappropriate movie, how the man can't see her face, which symbolizes that Alaska is a romantic and she wants romance.

    The Colonel makes a comeback, inviting Miles and Alaska to his home for dinner. They drive to Colonel's trailer and his mother, Dolores, is busy cooking up a storm. Alaska offers to help with dinner and afterwards, Alaska and Miles share Dolores' bed.

    Miles doesn't expect Alaska to show up at Room 43, sobbing. She repeats how she messes up everything, and Miles comforts her by letting her cry into his chest and she says, "You love the girl who makes you laugh and shows you p*** and drinks wine with you. You don't love the crazy, sullen b****."
  • Christmas

    Everyone went home for the holidays, including Alaska.
  • 8 Days Before

    The group returns to school after the Christmas break and immediately start talking and planning the prank and the pre-prank on Kevin and the Weekday Warriors. Miles wants to help and tries to get involved, but the Colonel and Alaska shuts him down, saying he can't get in trouble yet. Miles goes across the street and smokes a cigarette, thinking about Florida and how he doesn't want to like Alaska.
  • 3 Days Before

    The Colonel's mother covers for Takumi, himself and Miles so the prank can begin. The trio head to the barn and set up camp. Alaska and Lara soon join, taking turns telling the Eagle why they will be absent. They discuss the game plan and then split up. Miles and Takumi go setting off firecrackers. Alaska and the Colonel return to the barn, victorious but they only sent reports for the Weekday Warriors. The Colonel cracks open a bottle of wine that everyone took turns drinking from.
  • 2 Days Before

    To kill time, the group decides to have a freestyle rap battle. After, they play a game Alaska made up called Best/Worst Day. Alaska reveals how her mother died. Lara and Miles have a moment and start dating.
  • 1 Day Before

    Waking up the next day was not fun, as everyone was hungover. Takumi vomits all over the side of the road, and everyone else has a headache. They go tell the Eagle they are home and go back to sleep.
  • The Last Day

    Lara and Miles engage in oral relations, asking advice from Alaska. She finds it hilarious. Afterwards, they celebrate the success of the prank with more alcohol. Alaska and Miles have another moment, and they actually make out. But, later, Alaska is crying and orders them to distract the Eagle so she can leave. They let her leave, driving under the influence of alcohol.
  • 1 Day After

    The Colonel and Miles are awoken by the Eagle, being told to head to the gym. Miles points out that Alaska was not present and they couldn't start without her. Then the Eagle drops the news. Alaska Young got into a car accident and died. Everyone is shocked and incredibly distraught. Miles runs out and vomits in a trash can, not believing it. The Colonel screams, "I'm so sorry." Miles and the Colonel feel incredibly guilty, knowing they let her go driving drunk.
  • 2 Days After

    Miles calls his parents and tells them the news, and they are sympathetic. The Colonel suggests smoking in the bathroom, but can't get the matches to light. It frustrates him and he gets really upset and leaves. Visitors came through, Hank selling weed, Lara with words of sadness. Miles has a dream about Alaska, but she's dead in his dream too. Her funeral was Sunday, and the Colonel hadn't returned yet.

    The Colonel returns, pale and freezing, claiming to have walked 42 miles to Montevallo, 42 miles back. They discuss Alaska and

    The day of Alaska's funeral, Miles puts on his suit and the Colonel wears black slacks and a grey shirt. The group takes Takumi's SUV to her hometown, so they wouldn't have to pass the spot where she died. When they arrived, Alaska's father knelt in front of her coffin. The Colonel and Miles talk to her, apologizing for what they did.
  • 7 Days After

    The Colonel and Miles go through Alaska's room to check for anything her aunt wouldn't want to find. Miles wanted to take the book that Alaska showed him, "The General in His Labyrinth". They take the time to just absorb everything, things they will never see again. In a book, they find a note saying "Straight and Fast". Alaska wrote it, what could it mean?
  • 8 Days After

    Dr. Hyde writes "How will we ever get out of this labyrinth of suffering? - A.Y." on the board, explaining that she should be remembered. Everyone went around the class, expressing their feelings on Alaska's death. It made the Colonel and Miles really upset because no one was really friends with Alaska outside of Lara, Miles, the Colonel, Takumi, and Jake.
  • 9 Days After

    The Colonel comes up with a theory about Alaska's death, saying that she must've gotten a call from Jake, accusing her of cheating on him. So she wants to talk to him in person, hence why she wanted to leave campus. But instead of getting to Jake, she was too drunk to swerve to miss the police car. Miles and the Colonel have a small fight over it, but get over it quickly. They can't afford to lose each other in a time like this.
  • 13 Days After

    Miles and the Colonel hike to Vine Station, seeking answers from the police officer that Alaska crashed into. When they find him, they question him about the accident, any unusual items in the car, etc. The cop explains everything and says her BAL was 24, which is quite high. He tells them he saw brochures and white tulips in the backseat. Jake's flowers. The Colonel thinks it was a suicide, but Miles isn't convinced.
  • 14 Days After

    The next day, they search warning signs of suicide. Alaska only showed 2 signs of the many options. Miles and the Colonel thoroughly discuss her behavior before her death. They crack a couple jokes to lighten the mood, but it doesn't help the heavy weight of the question at hand. They decide that it wasn't a suicide attempt, but it wasn't an accident either. Holly mentions she was at the Waffle House, lights were saying Morse Code, which she didn't understand. This upsets Miles and the Colonel.
  • 20 Days After

    They decide to go across the road for dinner, a few oatmeal cream pies. The Colonel is going to call Jake the next day, he got his number from Takumi, who they have been leaving out of the loop. The Colonel and Miles get into a huge argument and Miles goes to the Smoking Hole, throws around chairs before lighting a cigarette and talking to Alaska. After, he heads back to the dorm with an apology for the Colonel. He tells Miles they are going to go down different avenues before calling Jake.
  • 27 Days After

    The Colonel takes the Eagle's Breathalyzer to test how drunk Alaska was when she drove. So, they go to Takumi for alcohol. He wants in but they don't let him join in. Miles and the Colonel go back to their room and the Colonel starts downing shots of vodka. After he gets to .24, he tests out walking and he can barely stand up. They come to the conclusion that she might've fallen asleep.
  • 29 Days After

    Takumi and Miles smoke inside the bathroom while the Colonel talks to Jake on the pay phone. When he comes back, the Colonel and Miles tell Takumi everything they know so far. The Colonel has new information from Jake, that they were just talking and Alaska freaked out out of nowhere, quickly saying goodbye before hanging up. Miles feels guilty for kissing Alaska but it was a crucial clue to figuring out the mystery of Alaska's death.
  • 46 Days After

    Miles decides it is time to talk to Lara, so he goes to her room to apologize. Katie tells her not to forgive him, but Lara forgives him with open arms. They go on a walk to the lake and talk about Alaska. Later, everyone goes down to the Smoking Hole, and they take turns throwing a cigarette in the water for Alaska. The group argues over whether her death was an accident or a suicide attempt. There isn't enough evidence to show for either one.

    Miles calls his mother and stares at the wall while she talks. He sees a flower, very similar to the ones Alaska drew. He says goodbye to his mother and tells Chip about the flower and how Alaska was talking to Jake and left urgently. She saw the doodle and remembered something, but what did she forget is the question they needed to be answered.
  • 69 Days After

    The Eagle announces a playground being built in Alaska's memory. Miles and the Colonel think about doing a memorial prank in Alaska's honour. The prank is called, "Subverting the Patriarchal Paradigm".
  • 83 Days After

    Everyone comes back from Spring Break ready to begin the prank. Miles has to call and get his father on board. The Colonel has planned everything to perfection, there is no space for mistakes.
  • 84 Days After

    Miles calls up his father, telling him to act as Dr. William Morse, a psychology professor for adolescent sexuality. The Eagle calls him, and agrees to let him speak to all of the students on Speaker Day.
  • 102 Days After

    The male stripper, Maxx, arrives as Dr. William Morse, ready to speak to the students. They pay him $320, and he gets ready for his performance. He starts reading off his script, but Lara tells him to take off his clothes. Maxx starts dancing and rips off his clothes, making everyone scream. The Eagle tells him to leave, and he questions everyone to confess to the prank. Everyone says no, including the Colonel and Miles. They say it was Alaska's prank, as it was.
  • 114 Days After

    The Colonel and Miles make a huge discovery about January 9th, remembering Barn Night when they played Best/Worst Night, when Alaska revealed her mother's death. She forgot about the anniversary, hence why she was so adamant about leaving. It explains the flowers. She hated herself for forgetting and she just rams the police car.
  • 118 Days After

    The Colonel and Miles go and drive the same route Alaska did, and they pass the place where she hit the cruiser, shattered glass all around the road. They exit the car, switching drivers and they embrace in front of the car, crying.

    The two throw themselves into schoolwork, studying to achieve their high GPA goals.
  • 122 Days After

    Dr. Hyde gives the class their final exam, with two weeks to complete it. The final exam is about labyrinths, and it leaves the Colonel and Miles somewhat stumped. The Colonel tells Miles that the labyrinth blows, but he still chooses it. Straight and fast is the easy way out.
  • 136 Days After

    Miles was struggling to finish his final for Dr. Hyde, and went back to his dorm after writing a final test. There was a green piece of paper from Takumi, saying he was leaving the next day for Japan and wasn't attending graduation. He mentions what happened that night and it was about Alaska's mother's death. Miles forgave him and Alaska forgave them. He writes a long monologue about his labyrinth and Alaska, summarizing his experience at Culver Creek.
