Where the Wild Things Are
I started reading English and Spanish from an extremely young age as encouraged by both parents who were educators. This was a gift from my cousin and the book developed my interest in fictional literature. -
Ramona Forever
The Ramona Quimby books were instrumental in my development as an avid reader. -
Mr. Rogers
After school I would come home to watch Mr. Rogers who made reading seem like it was a brand new world of imagination and possibility. -
Green Eggs and Ham
In school, they would bring reading to life by having events themed around Dr. Seuss for example. They made us literal green eggs and ham and had us try them after reading the book. -
The Drool Monster
At graduation, my teacher gave us all Junie B Jones books. I got this book because my teacher caught me sleeping and saw me drooling. It was an interesting real life correlation. -
WB Yeats
I found a collection of poetry in my cousin's bedroom and that started my lifelong love affair with the poetry of Yeats. A tormented, beautiful soul which I could relate to. -
Goosebumps
The Goosebumps classics sparked my imagination and creativity. It proved literature had some dimension. -
Twilight
My teenage self spent hours entranced by the pages of Meyer's Twilight novels. Reading became romantic. -
Einstein
For history class we had to pick an important figure to write about. I chose a biography on Einstein which made reading complex. -
Fridocha
Frida Kahlo may have been a primarily artistic figure, but her words of wisdom and subtle poetic touch furthered my love for poetry. -
In the Spirit of Crazy Horse
As a history student, I read too much nonfiction and biographical literature but I've learned to enjoy it when learning about figures like Leonard Peltier.
