Anglo-Saxon Invasion
Angles, Saxons, and other Germanic people left their homelands and settled in Britain’s eastern and southern shores. The Britons fought a numerous amount of legendary battles in effort to stop the invasion.

Beowulf
Beowulf is an old English story by an Anglo-Saxon poet. The poem tells a story of a strong and brave warrior (Beowulf) who defeats monsters then becomes king. Beowulf's first major battle was against Grendel.

Viking Raid
In the 790’s a group of northern European invaders- the Vikings, also known as the Danes- began to devastate North Umbria’s flourishing culture. At first, they came to loot monasteries, the Danes in time gained control of much of northern and eastern England.

King of Wessex
Alfred the Great was king of Wessex. He prevented England from falling to the Danes and promoted learning and literacy. He was king from 871-899.

Anglo-Saxon Exeter Book

Thomas a Becket's Murder
Becket rose to power in the reign of Henry. The two fought and Becket fled the country. Henry allowed his return back to England. They still continued to fight. This time it ended up with four knights killing Becket as the altar of the Canterbury Cathedral.
