my sisters
I had two older sisters growing up. They were both scholars. I'd listen to them brag about having a reading level 5 grades above them and bring back A+ report cards. i use to be jealous that i didn't get the same even though i was at the age were my report cards didn't even grades and i could barely sound out words. I wanted to live up to my sisters so i would try harder to get on their level age difference be damned. -
entertainment.
When i was younger, before i lived in Connecticut, before my family had stable income, there was times when the cable would go out so me and my sisters would have to entertain ourselves without television. one time my dad went to a garage sale and he bought a bunch of books. we didn't have space to sort them out so he just through them in a tub that i would have to root through to find something to read. i remember finding a diary of a wimpy kid book and falling in love with the series. -
diary of a wimpy kid.
These were the first books i ever fell in love with. It make me feel accomplished and smart for reading a "chapter book". it made me feel grown because it didn't have traditional pictures like the books i read previously. it was a perfect transition to me and i adored those books. -
Mrs. crouch
Ill never forget my fourth grade teacher Mrs. crouch. I took so much away from her class but the thing i'm most thankful for was the way she tried to pass her love on reading onto her students. She bought a class set of her favorite book for the class with her own money and she gave it to us and read it for us in our free time. i will always remember that book. it was called "the tiger rising" by Kate Decamilio and its my favorite book because of Mrs. Crouch -
I-Ready
At my old school, my fifth grade english teacher would make her students use I-ready to practice reading and writing skills. She would reward the people that got the highest scores by giving them a special lunch on fridays. -
quarantine
During COVID i went through many phases trying to cure my boredom, one of those phases was reading, something i use to find boring but found joy in. -
wattpad.
I use to want to be an author and i used Wattpad as my canvas. while the things i wrote and read were mostly cringe stories by eleven year old's it shaped me and helped better my writing. -
My Future.
I want to have a successful life. I want to go to college, and get a masters, and be educated. Something I've come to learn is reading is a huge part of that and something i need to embrace.
