My literacy journey
-
Kindergarten reading time
I remember sitting on the reading rug in Kindergarten as we watched our teacher read us a book that was comprehensible to our little 5-year-old minds. -
My second grade reading
As I was in third grade I was granted a prize for being able to read to our older peers who happen to be 4th graders. As I walked into the room I was intimidated as a young student. I sat down as all the students watch me read the book " If you give a Mouse a cookie." Every other stuttering that occurred as I read, increasingly made me red. Although It was a nervous moment I believe it made me more confident as a young reader. -
Pokemon cards
In 4th grade, something that was trending through all the classes was trading Pokemon cards. I believe that Pokemon can actually enhance my literary journey. The involved reading and understanding card descriptions, rules, and strategies. Also discussing cards with my fellow peers helped with my communication skills and confidence. -
Reading log
As school came to an end of 3rd grade I was assigned a summer reading log that would keep me on top of my literacy journey, which also would have to be signed by my parent. This event in my life was crucial because during the summer I ussaly wouldnt be reading but this assigment did. -
Diary of the wimpy kid
As I walked down the aisle of the book fair that would occur once a year, one book especially caught my eye every time. It was called The Diary of a Wimpy Kid, therefore I bought one of the books. I believe this book was a staple in my reading life because the humorous writing that intertwined with the comics made me really feel like I was in the book. -
5th grade teacher
As I entered 5th grade my curiosity and motivation for reading wasn't the best. I really never had an interest in reading, but as the year continued our teacher at the time gave me and our classmates much desire to read. His teaching techniques put me in such interest in reading at the time, making me today believe in being an avid reader. -
setting up my parents phone
As society became more reliant on technology my parents did too, therefore purchasing more advanced phones such as the new Samsungs and iPhones of the time. As for them not growing up with technology it was a bit confusing on how to set up and operate their devices. Hence being a young kid I would be asked to help. Therefore I would read through the instructions which made me more avid in reading instructions correctly for my academic success. -
10 grade
During my 10th-grade experience in ELA honors, I went through a variety of books that I was assigned to read. Those books consist of "The Scarlet Letter", "Cather in the Rye", and "Crucible". These books were a substantial jump from the 9th-grade level books I read. Throughout reading these book I learned to be able to pick out good quotes and good pieces of the book that was required for the essays that were required for the class. There were also pop quizzes for each reading excerpt.
