    Green Eggs and Ham (personal)
When I was in first grade I really liked to read Dr. Seuss books. I would listen to my mom read them every night. One day I was finally able to read Green Eggs and Ham all by myself! I was so excited that I began reading it every night to my little brother until he got tired of it. Then I was reading all kinds of Dr. Seuss books.

    First Grade (personal)
My first grade teacher was Mrs. Cook. I remember her so vividly because she is the person that made me love reading. I remember every morning we would sit on the carpet and listen to her read different stories. When she read funny books she would use different voices for each character. She had stuffed animals that went along with her series books. She would let us hold them while she read. Ever since then I would, "read, read, read and love it!" - Quote from my Literacy Coach at Burrowes.

In the summer, my mom would take my brother and I to the library once a week. We were allowed to check out up to 5 books at a time. When I was in 3rd grade, I was really into the Junie B. Jones books. I would check out 5 books even though I could only finish 2 a week. My mom would always tell me just get 2, but I loved them so much I always got more than I could read in a week!

    Reading Intervention (personal)
In fourth grade I struggled with comprehension and remembering what I read. I would read a book and not remember information like the setting and order of events. I worked in a small group with a reading specialist. I improved a lot in that year and going into fifth grade I no longer needed the reading intervention.
  • 10th Grade English (personal)

    10th Grade English (personal)
This class sticks out to me unfortunately in a negative way. I remember I had to read poems by authors who weren't alive. I never understood what the poems were about. From this point I never really liked poetry. I always felt lost when reading them and often wondered what was the point? I also remember this was the first time I had to read a write a research paper on a topic I was forced to pick from. This was a dreadful time for me.

I usually read romantic books or young adult books. My co-worker told me how she read this amazing book and that she thought I would enjoy it. She said it was a thriller called Behind Closed Doors. I read the book in 3 days!!! It was so good I began telling all my friends about it. I even told my dentist while I was waiting to get a cleaning. This book opened me up to a whole new genre. I have read two more books by this author and will continue to share with everyone.
