    Learning to Read and Write
When being taught to read and write, we were placed in groups based off of our current levels, and I was in the highest group, Purple. I got to write and illustrate my own book that they bound, which sparked my love for reading and writing.
  • Cursive

    Cursive
-In the 2nd-3rd combo class, we were learning third grade things, and cursive was one of them. When I got to 3rd grade, I had to do it again and I was bored and hated having to do it all twice.
-In 4th grade, we had to write an in class essay in cursive with extremely strict rules on cleanliness. My paper kept getting smudged and I did not get a good grade, and started to hate writing in general.
  • Gate Program

    Gate Program
I was the one of five children in the 4th grade to be apart of this program, and I could not memorize my lines for the play, which was traumatic and began the downfall of my love for reading and writing.

  • 6th Grade

-Accelerated Reader Program-We were forced to read a certain number of books in a period of time, and I quickly learned that if I skimmed or guessed, I could pass the test and not fail my reading grade.
-I would spend my recesses in the Special Day Class learning how others communicated and functioned in school and what their needs were. I realized that the GE way to do it is not the only way to learn.
  • High School

I did not read one assigned book my entire high school career, and managed to pass all of my English classes with A's because I was decent at writing and learned how to "fluff" my way through tests and essays.
  • Summer Vacation

    Summer Vacation
I went to Hawaii my Sophomore year of high school and brought a book for the plane ride, and read three books. I loved reading for fun, but I never had time because of soccer.
