Early Reading
My mom would read Dr.Seuss to me from birth; my favorite was "The Foot Book" -
I Can Read!
I learned to read on my own. My favorite books were, of course, Dr. Seuss. I was in Pre-K. -
The Busy World of Richard Scarry
I used to watch this show a lot and an episode that still sticks out to me this day dealt with language. I had just learned how to read and I remember this particular episode fascinated me. Two of the character went back in time and were cavemen. They were just learning language by creating it. I remember them "creating" the words "table" and "chair". Even now it makes me think about how language came to be; how we assigned sounds to letters and named things. -
Little Brother
My younger brother is 2 years younger than me. I used to read dinosaur and car books to him and I remember acting out stories we would read. -
Chapter Books!
I began reading the Magic Tree House Series by Mary Pope Osbourne around age 7. -
Book Battle!
There was a contest at my school to read the most books from a pre-approved list. Unfortunately we moved before the end so I did not win. I remember being so disappointed because I read all the books on the list and then some. -
Harry Potter
Up to this point I liked to read. The Harry Potter series took my love of reading to the next level. I have read this series dozens of times, even into adulthood. I began reading these books at age 11, the same age as Harry when he began at Hogwarts. This connected me to a character in a way I had never experienced before. I feel like I grew up with Harry Potter. -
Twilight
I moved on to my next series and realized I loved fiction series. Over the next few years I also read The Hunger Games and the Divergent series'. -
My Favorite Type of Books
I read "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown and fell in love with suspenseful fiction. I love Dan Brown and Steve Berry. -
The Classics
I decided a few years to read the classics so I have been slowly reading them intermittently with my busy life. My love for reading is still alive and well.
