Britain and France continued to gain new territories in Africa, which was a part of imperialism. Then, when the two continued to meet at Fashoda, they both knew that there was no point of starting a war over such territories. This leads to the French surrendering, and focus on expanding their lands on West Africa. This later leads to the military agreement between Britain and France, which is part of the Mutual Defense Alliances. -
Boer War of 1899 (Second Boer War)
The Boer war of 1899 occured from 1899/10/11 to 1902/05/31 between the British Empire and the Afrikaans. According to Martin Kelly's article, this was an example of imperialism. Through the war, Britain increased its power in Africa, and spread a message that warned younger countries such as Germany to expand its power. This would later also influence the building up of armies between the countries. -
Anglo-Japanese Alliance 1902
Anglo-Japanese Alliance of 1902 was one of the numerous Mutual Defense Alliances that occured across the globe. While the two countries formed an alliance due to fearing Russia, there were many other alliances that were also signed. This was what resulted the First World, because when two countries decided to go into war, a string of countries from both sides had to join the war, which caused the domino effect. -
Entente Cordiale 1904
The Entente Cordiale was also part of the numerous alliances that were signed. The Entente Cordiale was signed between Britain and France, which not only replaced the Modus Vivendi, the temporary contract signed before, but ended thousands of years of rivalry. This is mainly signed because they deemed Germany as a rival. According to Martin Kelly, this was also a part of the mutual defense alliances that caused the First World. -
Morocco 1905 (First Moroccan Crisis)
The First Moroccan Crisis occured from March 1905 to May 1906. When Germany tried to help Morocco gain its independence and increase frictions between France Britain, it was able to achieve Morocco's independence, but increased Germany's friction with Britain and France. Also, this caused trouble between the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. -
Anglo-Russian Entente 1907
The Anglo-Russian Entente of 1907 was signed between Germany and Russia that ended suruggle for power at the cost of underdeveloped countries. The entente also ended the rivalry knowns as the Great Game. This is part of the Mutual Defense Alliances that caused the First World. -
Bosnian 1908 (Bosnian Crisis)
The Bosnian crisis that occured form 10/1908 to 4/1909 occured when Austria-Hungary annexes Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was part of the Ottoman empire's territory. By trying to gain more land under their control, imperialism becomes a source of competition. Too much competition resulted in the first world.
