Raise and Extract
They cut down California cedar trees from the Sierra Nevada mountains, and they mine for graphite in South Korea and Austria. They also mine for pumice and aluminum, and they cut down rubber trees. -
Process
After being shipped to the factories, the cut wood is turned into slabs, where they are cut into several pencil shaped molds. Also the graphite and the clay powder are mixed together to form the lead. -
Manufacture
The lead is inserted, and the pencil eraser is bound to the pencil with an aluminum ferrule. The pencil is then painted, and the pencil is branded. The pencils are then shipped to the stores, where they are sold. -
Use
The pencils are bought, and then the consumer uses the pencil over and over again, until the pencil is too short to be used again. -
Dispose
Pencils can be recycled by selling the discarded pieces to a secondhand store. The pencil can also decompose in the environment, or it can be thrown in an incinerator. -
