Life events for sociology

By Nico S.
  • Birth

There is not much to say, it's when I was born :)
  • Baptism

Even though I have no memory of this event, this is technically the beginning of my life as Catholic.

  • Parents' divorce

I cannot recall the date precisely since I was 4, but it was a weird process in which my dad kept switching apartments over and over, I never really cared too deeply of why they divorced, or maybe I never wanted to find out.

  • 11 Years +camping

I spent this birthday outside, in my first event inside of the Schoenstatt, I actually broke my clavicle, but I still stayed in the event.
  • Violin

After seeing uncle playing the violin with his friends' band I was astonished by its music, I started violin classes until I came to the U. S.
This was my greatest approach to music ever.
  • 2019 Argentinian elections

Even though I was too young to have a political opinion, I was already starting to see how sophisticated politics were, particularly in Argentina (if you think the U. S. is complex, it is nothing compared to what goes around there). I could start to see my family's views.
  • COVID-19

Quarantine in Argentina took effect two weeks after we started Secondary school (the system is different there and begins in March). for my whole school year and summer I was not able to hang out with friends...

  • Period: to

    War in Ukraine

This war that broke out while I was in summer is my first approach ever into geopolitics, what I have a strong interest in.
  • 14 Years

  • Entering a swimming team

After a few months practicing I joined a team I would be part of until I went to live in the U. S.
  • Father's moving

My dad went to the U. S. long before me, despite it was an expected event, the change in the daily life was anyways drastic.
  • Period: to

    1st travel to the U. S.

just a few months after my dad left Argentina I got to visit him for three full months, it was my first experience in another country, I met many people and cultures as well as I enhanced my English skills.
I was actually about to stay since I was able to change my status then, but then I had to leave since my mother was not in favor of it.

  • 2023 Argentinian elections

The first anarchocapitalist president in history came to power in Argentina. These months strongly deepened my political views and concerns. The situation the country was in is unfathomable for you probably (120%+ annual inflation, political coalitions falling apart and huge unemployment).
  • Period: to

    "The Girl."

I met someone online, she lived in Atlanta, though, and I knew I was going to travel to the U. S. soon.
It is a terribly long story with a lot of drama, it's hard to define what I felt for her, it was more of reliance rather than appreciation, she was addicted to weed and barely never spoke with a clear mind... But the last thing she told me before blocking me was: "You don't talk to me because you care for me, you only do because you got no one else" that sticked in my mind for a bit...
  • Period: to

    2nd travel to the U. S.

This shorter travel got quite overshadowed by me due to her, but I still appreciated my dad's company.
  • Period: to

    "The Bad Months"

During this period of time I was in my lowest mental state I've been so far: I had insomnia for months, limiting my energy and normal-day schedule; I also did not care at all about anything regarding school, failing almost all classes very low, apart from the very few I was sort of interested in; but the worst of these months is that I would randomly feel a terrible feeling of loneliness and despair out of nowhere.
  • 16 Years +camping

This was a more refreshing birthday that I spent with my friends in a camping we had organized from the Schoenstatt movement.
  • Pioneer's Promise

This is a crucial event in the Schoenstatt movement, I swore alongside my group to always fight for the Schoenstatt ideals, it is a Catholic movement originated in Germany.
  • Last flight to the U. S.

I have been living in Georgia ever since, so far I've loved the experience and I've realized far more cultural contrasts, some that I like and some others that I can't comprehend to this day.
