Life Cycle of a Butterfly

By acooze
  • Stage 1: Eggs

In this stage, a female butterfly lays eggs on a leaf close together.
  • Stage 2: Caterpillar/Larvae

After about 5 days, the eggs turn into a caterpillar (also commonly called a larvae). During this stage the caterpillar mostly eats so that it can be continuously growing; it mostly consumes leaves and flowers. This stage lasts between 9 to 14 days
  • Stage 3: Chrysalis (Pupa)

In this stage the caterpillar makes a Chrysalis which can also be called a Pupa. The Pupa's colour matches the things around it so it is usually either brown or green. This stage is also known as the changing stage since the caterpillar begins to change
  • Stage 4: Butterfly (Adult)

In this stage the process is finished! The Pupa opens and out comes a beautiful butterfly.
