Meriwether Lewis is asked by president Jefferson to be his secretary Aid.

Lewis becomes comander of expedition, and writes a letter to William Clark to join him. Clark later accepts.

July

Thomas Jefferson purchases louisianna Territory.
May 14, 1804

Start

Expedition begins.
Aug 3, 1804

first summer

Corps of discovery meet with representatives of the oto and Missouri Indians and exchanged gifts as a symbol of peace
Oct 24, 1804

october

Expedition discovers villages of the Mandan and Hidatas Indians. The captains decided to build Fort Mandan there.
Nov 4, 1804

winter

Troussant Charbonneau was hired along with his wife Sacagawea as interpreters.

Feb

Sacagawea gives birth to a baby boy. Jean Baptiste
Mar 23, 1806

Fort

Fort Clotsop is created. Named after the Clatsop Indians.
Aug 14, 1806

returning

The expedition returns to the mandan village after reaching Oregon.
Sep 23, 1806

Home at last

Lewis and Clark reach St. Louis
Oct 15, 1806

Homecoming

Lewis and Clark return home and treated like national heroes. They returned to washington D.C. The two men recieved double the pay and 320 acres of land as a reward.
