The start of their adventure
Meriweather Lewis and William Clark were hired for exploration from the Mississippi River eastward. They were hired by Thomas Jefferson briefly after the Louisianna purchase. -
Their first Native American encounter
They were first greeted at their camp by the Natives. Each group of people were fiendly to one another. Lewis and Clark were given gifts from the Native Americans, Later they went to Sioux terriotory they gave them 5 medals as a gift but they did not like them. Then they warned Lewis and Clark about the other tribe. -
The New enemy
The Sioux became greedy and dangerous when they were not pleased with the gifts they recieved from the explorers.So Lewis and Clark had to fight back, but niether attacked but now they have to worry about having a new enemy. -
The Fatal Winter
Lewis and Clark just barley made it to the Manden Tribe where they planned on staying for the horrible winter. They then built fort from the Sioux tribe and the harsh weather conditions. Their biggest obstacle was the decrease in food supply. -
Sacagewea and others join the explorers
During the winter with the Mandan tribe Lewis and Clark had met many helpful people. Such as Sacagewea, Jean Baptiste,and Charbonneau these people will acompany the explorers on the rest of their journey. -
Their first Grizzly Bear encouner
Lewis and Clark were warned by Native tribes about the dangerous and powerful grizzly bears but the explorers did not believe them. Untill one gruesome when Lewis was chased by a bear till he could kill it. -
a dilemma with the river
The explorers were faced with a major obstacle when they came upon a fork or split in the river. There were no way of indicating which way woud take them to the Rockies. So Lewis took three men and they went on the southern branch in hope of finding the Great Falls which would confirm they are in Missouri. -
Bitteroot valley
All supplies were running low, Lewis and Clark were given horses by a native tribe and then continued on their journey. They nearly died of starvation untill they contacted Nez Perce who gave them fish. After Bitterroot Valley they started down the Clearwater River. -
Back to Bitterroots
After another winter and discovering more and continuneing on their exploration Lewis and Clark must go back to Bitterroots where they nearly died of starvation. First they must stay with the Nez Perce who gave them more supplies and advise. After trying a first time the explorers tried to cross bitterroots but there was too much snow so they had to return to the Nez Perce territory. The next time they were successful and went on to discover new things. -
The end of an exhausting, exciting, and educational exploration
After spliting up to finding each other againg due to an arrow shot in Lewis's leg,having to say fairwell to sacagewea and the others and having an encounter with the sioux thier journey was finished. After 2 years of being away and thought to be dead Lewis and Clark were finally home and successfully completed their exploration.
